I've been suffering issues with my right ear for many months, based on what my local audiologist told me and information I've researched online this is most likely due to a blocked eustachian tube. After traveling to see Dr Courtney and explaining my symptoms he checked my ear and essentially told me that I need to go back to the audiologist because I have hearing loss. I explained again about my symptoms that suggest it's more than just a hearing issue, asking why I keep feeling light headed for no reason, he tells me that's from high blood pressure. A few days later I saw my local GP and it turns out my blood pressure is normal. I will continue to seek answers about my condition but I will not be seeing this doctor again.
I'm sure he is qualified to treat more simple issues relating to the ear nose and throat but in my personal experience it was a waste of time and money.

Although Dr Courtney is efficient, his ability to communicate with me and the patient my son was poor. We had an appointment with him to discuss options for my son as he was constantly having time off school for headaches and he was constantly stuffy in his nose. His recommendation was surgery for 3 things immediately with no look for any other option. We waited for the surgery for 15 months with no communication. When we were in the hospital there was no conversation with him prior to the procedure to reitirate anything discussed 15 months earlier. There was no consultation by him post operation either which would have been helpful as all I received was 3 pieces of paper with information stating to call an ambulance if the symptoms were worse than on the paper. Would have been really good for him as the ENT to have come and assessed my son and his ability to travel 40 min home post his operation and set things straight with the residence doctors who were pushing us out of the hospital with no consideration that my son was still unwell, and still throwing up as they were saying he was ok to leave. Which I said I was staying an additional night, then to have the same resident doctor come and say he is ok to go home, and why didnt we leave the day earlier, why thank you Tweed Heads Hospital. Where was Dr Courtney then? still no consultation. Only to have to spoon liquid into my now 6 kilo lighter son because he is to sore because both the nurse and doctor said the only painkiller upon discharge they could prescribe was panadol which was doing nothing for him. The most frightening part was when my child threw up blood after have 24hrs awake because he was in so much pain. Called the ambulance. It was good to have people who knew what they were doing at the New Gold Coast Hospital. My son had an ENT assess him within 30 min of arriving and had strong enough pain killers to help him etc etc so that he felt well enough to return home the next day. Follow up appointment 3 min. One question, "is he breathing through his nose?" "yes". Final statement "I wont need to see him again". Ok. Thank heavens for that! So no I would not recommend his services unless he is the only one available and even then, I might suck it up and wait for someone else.

My little boy needed to have grommets put in at the age of 2. After making numerous phone calls and not being able to get an appointment with a ENT for months, i finally tried Dr Mark Courtney's room and to my delight was able to get an appointment within a week and the surgery done within 2 months- on christmas eve. Dr Courtney was extremely professional and really explained eveything clearly. He didn't charge above the medicare gap so all we had to pay was the hospital admission fees which was very little as we had private health. By getting the surgery done so quickly it saved my child from having permanent hearing loss. I can't thank Dr Courtney and his staff enough.
