Let me tell you how this man operates in my opinion . It appears from my experience that his sole purpose on this earth is to accumulate as much money as he can without much regard for patient outcomes or diagnostic work-up. He saw me for a total of 7 minutes and within that time decided that I needed a $4000 FMT treatment based on chronic fatigue and the fact that I had antibiotics in my 20’s. That consult was $300 out of pocket. I have since gone on to get a proper diagnosis with clinical tests proving my condition indicating he was miles, no, hundreds of miles off the mark. Tread your own path....with eyes wide open.... as well as your wallet. Debt collectors now follow me for his $300 which I refuse to pay given the time, lack of questions and proper diagnostic work-up delivered in his 7 minute consult.

Approximate cost: $300

I have had chronic fatigue for 18 years. Last December I had a FMT in Melbourne with a gastroenterologist Dr Froomes. He and his team are very professional. They were helpful and answered all my questions when I was unsure. I have followed everything he said and feel that has aided the healing process enormously

First one was a colonoscopy then 9 self administered in our caravan. We'd travelled from WA especially for this treatment
I didn't feel any different at first but slowly improved. I'm able to do much more than normal. Not having to go back to bed and recovering much quicker after doing too much is a great boon. I have more energy and can drive to shops where before I would have had my husband drive. The brain fog is better and I can plan for the future. The cost was certainly worth it

Approximate cost: $5500

At the end of September I took a ten day course of antibiotics prescribed by DR PAUL FROOMES to get rid of the parasite Blastocystis. The antibiotics were Bactrim, Diloxinide furoate and Secnidazole.

On the second last day of the ten day course (the 5th of October) the second and third toe on my right foot went numb. Since then I have gradually had reduced sensation over my entire body, with my feet and legs most affected. I have episodic pain in the backs of my arms and legs. If the weather is hot I usually experience this type of pain. Recently my left leg's numbness has increased and I'm not able to bear weight on it for extended periods without excruciating pain.

About 7 weeks ago I noticed changes to my eyesight (reduced depth perception, perceiving things as moving as my whole image is grainy) as well as dizziness and tinnitus. My eyes get extremely tired now.

3 weeks ago I consulted a neuroopthalmologist who diagnosed my changes in visual perception as Visual snow syndrome. He attributed my numbness and reduced sensation to a global impairment of perception.

Brain and spine MRIs and nerve conduction tests have all been normal as well as the blood tests that have been done.

I had another MRI of the brain on Friday which focused on my optic nerves to make sure they are healthy and am waiting on that result. Tests of my eyes from an ophthalmologist have so far been normal apart from picking up on my reduced depth perception and diminished perception of red in my right eye.

In the last month I have developed clicking, pain and swelling in my joints.

Recently I went through the potential side effects of bactrim (the list is extensive) and came across vasculitis. Nonsystemic vasculitic neuropathy (as well as certain types of systemic vasculitis) can only be definitively diagnosed (or ruled out) with a muscle or muscle/nerve biopsy. Nerve conduction studies are often normal and blood tests will not necessarily reveal abnormalities.

Given the progressive and persistent nature of my symptoms, I am trying to find out what is happening to cause my symptoms now over 4 months since I took the antibiotics and my symptoms began.

I am currently wanting to rule out vasculitis as if it is that, it is something that can be treated which would halt the progression of the numbness and pain.

I have also had panic and severely low mood as well with frequent thoughts of suicide since this all began. I have also experienced a sense of 'depersonalisation'-like life is happening at a distance from 'me' and recently saw that this can be associated with visual snow syndrome. I have a bipolar diagnosis and so have a psychiatrist who I asked to prescribe something for my panic and mood about a month ago. She prescribed 400mg per day of tegretol which I had been on before but had stopped 18 months ago. Despite my history of mental illness I never experienced the panic and severe depression as I have since this began. The tegretol has been helpful.

I also had persistent thrush (it lasted about 6 weeks and started a couple of months ago) that I have got rid of with the help of a Chinese medicine doctor who has helped me over the last few months.

This is a basic summary of my symptoms and their chronology.

Hi Rebecca, I just thought I should reach out to you, even though I see this was posted back in May 2018. I also had issues after antibiotics. However in my case it was after being on the strongest antibiotic in the world, Vancomycin, for 6 months. This was prescribed by Dr Borody, the counterpart to Dr Froomes in Sydney. I believe the issues you are experiencing are due to damage to your microbiome. I have experienced a whole host of issues after taking those antibiotics including vision problems. This was diagnosed as fibromyalgia. If you research into it, you will find that a lot of neurological problems stem from the gut, more specifically the microbiome. You need to find a way to repopulate your microbiome in order to fix yourself. I have begun working on this myself and have experienced improvement in my symptoms, but I'm not healed yet. Don't look at the side effects of the drugs, the damage is that the antibiotics wiped out a lot of the good bacteria in your gut. You may find some supplement improve your symptoms as well including magnesium, melatonin, and vitamin D. There are more, but try those first.

Warning to everyone who is considering FMT: I spent the best part of $10,000 on three rounds of FMT because I am desperate to free of my IBS. Before he got my money, I was told by Dr Froomes that I had one of the worst cases of IBS he'd ever seen. How do I remember his? Because in the past three years I've been seeing this doctor, he has spent, at best, an hour in total with me. The treatment initially worked, but did not last long. And now he claims that I "just have a few food intolerances". Really? How come the FMT didn't work, then? And how come I've continued to lose weight ever since? And how come I can't eat until late afternoon? IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU ARE NOT A FMT SUCCESS STORY, YOU WILL BE ARROGANTLY DISMISSED, AS I WAS. Trust me, being dismissed has markedly set my health back.

I was refered to Dr Froomes and well looked after. He knows his stuff. However I noticed he billed for every day he visited my hospital room even on days no notes or changes to my treatment was made or recorded in the bed charts and no conversation other than "how are you?" appeared to take place. I felt this was a bit excessive.

Dr Froomes is very experienced and thorough with his investigations. He works from several locations, making it easier to get an appointment if you are not fussy about where you go. Costs are quite expensive and he doesnt bulk bill for Health Care cards, but he is a great doctor.

Approximate cost: $160.00
