I joined a group of ladies for high tea for a bridal shower and we were served lovely towers of food but for the amount we paid I felt we weren't provided enough, many other guests agreed as we all walked away hungry. The food was tasty and fresh but just not enough

The restaurant itself is lovely in presentation, warm and welcoming. Our waitress was lovely, well groomed and pleasant to deal with but the lady behind the bar was rude and abrupt- had she been the only person we dealt with we would not be returning. The meals were nice but certainly not fine dining quality, they had the mass produced flavor and texture to them

This is a casual but elegant restaurant which serves fine cuisine - breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had a very delicious lunch - a tasty seafood combination dish, which was full of flavour. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. You can also drop in any time for a coffee and tempting sweet treats, all made on the premises. As a bonus, Esca Restaurant is in the Fine Dining section of the Entertainment book, and we are going to have dinner there soon. Will keep you posted. The restaurant is part of the Hotel Charles, which is situated opposite the Launceston General Hospital, so if you need to stay in Launceston for medical reasons they offer classy accommodation with 24 hour room service. They also cater for conferences.
UPDATE: I have now had 3 dinners since my previous review, and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. They have a seasonal menu, and have recently updated to their spring menu. So far I have had salmon salad, chicken breast and, last week, rack of lamb. (I'm not a big red meat eater, but the lamb was extremely tender and delicious - would recommend it to anyone, red meat lover or not!). Their desserts are so delicious, and are obviously prepared with pride - my favourite so far was the hazelnut creme caramel. (No favourite main course - they were all very delicious!) The service was casual, friendly and attentive - we especially enjoyed Emma's service, who on each occasion has made our experience a memorable one (the most outstanding waitress we have encountered yet). As I mentioned before, Esca Restaurant is listed in the Entertainment Book - an added bonus!

Approximate cost: $30-
