As a Tavern this place is surprising. Decor not the best, but they have only had it a few months.
The food is good and comes in large portions. They are happy to change things around on the menu. Staff are friend without being over bearing.
The mountain beef schnitzel is served on a pizza plate and is about 5mm thick and tender without gristle nor does it shrink inside the crumbs - comes with chips, veg, gravy as expected. I've had 3 of these and all good. All lunches.

Approximate cost: $20

The tavern is under new management (August 2012), and this is evident from the moment you arrive - car park often full in evenings, inside there are changes in decor, lots more patrons than a few months ago, and staff are much more welcoming. On cold days there is a lovely fire burning in the fireplace near the bar.
Meals are good counter meals - basic food and huge serves. There is a kids menu too.
I will be going back soon to see how things are progressing.
Worth a visit after being on the mountain.

Set in a beautiful little spot, at the bottom of Mt Wellington, this place is great to stop at on a cold winters day. The atmosphere is really nice with a cosy fire. Menu isn't stunning, with barely any vegetarian options, they are also a bit pricey. Otherwise nice to eat at.

Approximate cost: $17
