After living in the Melbourne CBD for 3 years and now in Richmond, I have had very little need to have a car on a daily basis. Flexicar is a fabulous car sharing service that provides a car in my neighbourhood, that I can book out for an hour or a day. I don't need to worry about paying for petrol, or about maintaining an automobile. Dorothy is my little yellow Honda Jazz. She runs like a dream and carries my groceries. I walk only 5 minutes to pick her up rather than having to head into the CBD to pick up a rental car. Also, having the same car every time means I don't have to take the time to work out the controls. Easy online booking.

Heard about Flexicars on ABC 774, joined on their website. Painless to join. I was happy to find there are two flexicars in my area. I now use the car on Glenlyon rd effectively as our second family car.

Approximate cost: $10

Just sold my ride and joined these Flexicar guys. So i pay for car use by the hour. Used the service about 4 times this past month. The car i use is 500m from my place near the shops and it's very convenient for me. I reckon this is the model of the future if you are a city dweller.( it's a membership system, think Gym membership meets rental car )All costs are included - fuel, insurance etc.Cars all over Melbourne and Sydney i believe.

Approximate cost: $11

I am a member of Flexicar - a car sharing service - which gives me access to their 55 cars around Melbourne. Car sharing is a cheap, green and easy alternative to car ownerships. I'm an unusual member, in that I own a car. But when I need to get my car repaired, or when I'm in "early bird" parking in the city and dont want to sacrifice my cheap rate, it's actually easier to take a flexicar for an hour or two than it is to get my car our. I pay around $12 an hour - and that includes petrol. Recommend it for anyone that doesn't want expense of owning a car - or just needs an alternative sometimes, like me!

Approximate cost: $12 p.hr
