Since my last review of this business (see below) I am sorry to say that at the moment (in my opinion) it only rates barely two stars as the general shopping experience has deteriorated markedly. Yesterday (Monday) we went to this store to purchase milk which was advertised in the specials catalogue at a reduced price. We arrived there to find that the milk had not been delivered at this point of time. We sought out a staff member (which took some time) and she told us that it would be delivered some time that day. She took our name and 'phone number and told us that she would give us a call when it came it. We then went to do other shopping while we were there, four of the items were also in the specials catalogue and two were at normal prices. At the checkout my wife realised that one of the items was scanned at the normal price and not the special price, after confirming the catalogue price we were reimbursed the appropriate amount. It was not until we arrived home and checked the items that we found two other special items had been scanned at the normal price. Later that day my wife 'phoned to see if the milk had been delivered and the staff member advised us that it would be arriving after 3.00pm. She also mentioned the discrepancy between the marked specials and the scanned price and was told that the staff had not yet removed the special prices tag from the specials that ended on Sunday. But it was obvious that some of the new specials that started on Monday had not been altered accordingly on the registers. In summary, of the seven items that we went shopping for, one of the specials had not yet been delivered, another two had been changed at normal price and another one was scanned correctly, and we were reimbursed for another one specials item. Of the regularly priced items that we required, one had not been refilled onto the shelf. The following day at about 10.00am we received a 'phone call advising us that the milk had arrived but we told her that we had since purchased the product at another store and would not be requiring it from them. This whole experience resulted in our paying over $6.00 more than we should have. Beware of this store and check all dockets before leaving the store especially where specials are concerned.

Hi Grahamwendym, clearly a disappointing experience for you. Unfortunately, many of these ‘independent’ supermarkets are not part of the Master Grocers Association of Victoria and therefore consumers are not granted the same level of protection when goods are wrongfully scanned. In addition to this, there appears to be little incentive for such businesses to do the ‘right’ thing which can be a source of greater frustration for consumers. Thanks for detail which is sure to help many. Regards, Reeces

This is my local supermarket, and I often do my grocery shopping here.
But I avoid buying any products from the deli... Here's why:

9 times out of ten, the deli ladies are wearing gloves... But they NEVER seem to change them!!! I was waiting to buy some ham, and at the time, there was only one deli lady working. She was wearing the correct gloves, picked up raw chicken with her hands, not tongs, and after wrapping up the chicken, came to serve me, still wearing the gloves she had just contaminated with the raw chicken!

I don't think this lady understands what cross-contamination is, and how seriously it can make people ill!

Another time, I purchased a handful of groceries, including a tomato (which was about $3.99kg)
I didn't realise until after I'd gotten home that I was charged SIX DOLLARS for ONE tomato!!!! It was about the same size as a tennis ball..

Needless to say, I only go here now if I can't be bothered walking to the local Woolies.

A week hardly goes by without Valley View supermarket advertising a range of money saving specials. The range of goods is large and diverse and at normal times the prices are still reasonable. You can really save dollars by picking out the many and varied weekly specials as they become available.

medium sized supermarket. big enough to carry lots of stock so they don't run out too quickly when the specials are on. parking is very convenient and always available quite close to the door.

Approximate cost: $50

The staff at Foodland Valley View are friendly and helpful. It feels like they know you when they say "Hello" and smile. The prices are reasonable. They have just updated their facilities. Variety of products. Promote Australian and South Australian companies and products.
