As I was so abruptly told by the owner, as they rejected every one of our ideas for formal wear for our wedding: "Everyone will want to know where you got your suits from, so we will make sure you have a great product".

Well, they certainly didn't give us a great product, and we want to make sure everyone knows where we got them from.

Other reviews of this place elsewhere all say the same things. Rude, overly forceful of their opinions onto you, incredibly dismissive of what you're after, and unwilling to take blame for their stuff up.

My best man went in to pay for his suit seven days before the wedding only to be told that he couldn't, as they were expecting us all to come in on the Thursday at Midday for a group fitting. This was interesting, as we certainly hadn't been told this. I then called them to be told "Oh we were going to call you on Monday to arrange that". I have a feeling they may have underestimated the difficulty in arranging 5 guys who work full time nowhere near Burwood, to all get out of work at midday a week before Xmas and try on suits at less than a week's notice. This was our fault and uncommon to them.

I received several phone calls from them whenever they wanted contact details of any and every guest they could think of to sell a suit too (including several rude voicemails when I couldn't pick up), but the idea of booking a time seemed a bit unnecessary to them. Between the three employees there, they'd also managed to tell myself and 4 groomsmen different times/days to come in to pay, to return the suit, and when to pick up, which again caused all sorts of confusion.

To their credit, they worked very hard two days before the wedding to provide alterations on some of the suits before the big day.

On the other hand, one of my groomsmen received a vest that was the wrong colour and three sizes too big, as well as a jacket that was three sizes too small.

No, I would not recommend them. I went with them as they appeared to have the largest range, and was then satisfied that the quote given was lower than the rest I had received. Pay the extra $20 and go elsewhere.

Having just been married I have dealt with lots of various vendors over the past few months. All have delighted me EXCEPT for Formal Wear of Melbourne. My husband and his groomsmen hired their suits from Formal Wear of Melbourne. Our first visit, they were helpful, but a bit pushy; every suggestion he made, they would shut down saying to him "That wouldn't look good, we won't put out colour schemes that don't look good because it will spoil our reputation"

Ok fair enough...

Our next visit, they notified us 2 days prior that they wanted the entire grooms party to attend a fitting together so they could take photos and make sure it all looked right. The date they asked us to come in was 2 days before our wedding. Kind of a busy time for everyone!

Then to top everything off. When we finally picked up their suits, the grooms suit didn't fit and had pen marks all over it. One of the groomsmen's suits also didn't fit, so they said they would order another in.

When we picked the last items up on the day, they had given one of the groomsmen a WHITE vest instead of black. As a result, in all of my wedding photos, it looks like there are 2 grooms because all of the groomsmen are in black vests, then the groom and one groomsman are in white. They have ruined our wedding photos which are worth 1000's of dollars. Quite frankly, Formal Wear of Melbourne are lucky I'm not sueing them for this cost.

When my mum went to see them to drop off my father's suit, they hardly apologized, stating that the mix up was because the groomsmen had put on weight, (in fact, the original vest he tried on was MILES too BIG, not too small!).

Stop with the excuses, apologize for your mistakes and rectify the problem in any way you can. These are the BASIC principles of customer service.

Appalling.

Approximate cost: $400 per suit. And yes, we were still charged for the suit that they stuffed up.
