I loved France-soir when I visited here but more so because my parents footed the bill. It was quite pricey but the quality was pretty darn good with the highlight being the creme brulee and the wine list. Still the best red I have had to date! Worth even going for dessert or just pre event drinks.

For the authentic French experience, France-Soir is the place to eat. This restaurant is always busy, even when other places are quiet so they must be doing something right. I have been always taken as a guest which is just as well because the prices are a little high. I have had the Salad Nicoise and it is quite good. They serve real french shoestring fries with the meal and they are yum. My friends have said that the Steak Tartare is really good. A very French experience with French waiters and French attitude.

Amazing french food - classic bistro style, cramped and loud. Great wine list but very expensive. The odd thing is the waiters all try to hit on the women there, so a bit unusual service

Fine dining with BYO and good service. Very delicious food - suggest you share with your other diners so that you can taste a bigger variety of dishes on offer. The waiters are polite and fun and won't rush you out while you sit and finish off your wine

Always very busy and buzzing you can get a meal here at 11 at night which can be a problem in Melbourne. It's French from top to tail. Waiters are all french and the menu is too. They serve some things which are hard to find and unusually appealing including Quennels, slabs of pate de fois gras, an excellent rabbit stew, snails, of course, and mussels. Their steaks are very good, the fillet eapecially, and they will cook them exactly as requested, including blue, which, excuse the pun, is very rare indeed. Pomme frites are great too.
Waiters can be abrupt but we go there often and always enjoy it. The wine list is huge and comes in a leather bound tome but you can usually rely on the waiters advice and if it is by the glass have a trial sip first. Prices are around average.

The food is great but think the wine list is a bit daunting although this might suit people who really know their vino. The brains as an entree are sensational.

After going to the theatre, I went here with high expectations. I was not disappointed. I found the food and wine excellent in quality. France-Soir is unique and has a nice bistro atmosphere.

This place has become an icon in the area. It is an authentic French restaurant and the food is always very good. You get the French food and the French service. They are generally busy so you probably need to book. A good one to experience.

I went to France Soir with my husband and daughter for my birthday in June this year. I had heard about it for yonks, and as I speak French I thought It a good place to go to celebrate. Also because we had been to France in 07 for a lengthy stay. I found it to be typically French yet situated Downunder. The same arrogance of the waiting staff.....they must have taken lessons from the Parisien restaurants! FSoir is a place to be seen at. We were surrounded by models posing, or trendy rich middle-aged folk as well as those who remembered Edith Piaf as their peer. We sat under the nauseating photo of FSoir's owner and Ron Wood and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones....name dropping oops! All in all it was an experience......the wine list read like the White Pages and some of the prices.....OMG!!

food was great but was offended when the staff decided to make comments about their patrons in french.. staff were arrogant to assume that some of their patrons don't speak or understand french.. i would go back again simply because i can't seem to find another quality french restaurant..

The food we ate at France-Soir was amazing! The duck breast with orange sauce, and the beef fillet were both tender and mouth watering! The restaurant was very busy (we went on a Sunday evening), and the tables were quite close together; however I felt this gave the restaurant a true Parisian feel, along with the french speaking waiters. Overall, an excellent dining experience!
