I had a terrible health issue - I won't go into details, but it was very sensitive, and I felt very vulnerable. But the service here was terrible. I ended up in tears. I was so sick. I could barely move. Yet the treatment I received seemed more about moral judgments than about health care and respect. I won't be going back.

First off, I need to state that I have only seen, two doctors at this surgery, out of the 5 listed on their website.
My negative review can only reflect the service and care these two, which I won't name and shame. If other people have a favourite doctor at this surgery who is fabulous, please let me know! I will try them. But at the moment I feel I won't go back to this surgery unless I am desperate.

If you are in need of simple treatment, or if you have visible signs of a health issue, such as a cold or something, and simply need a doctor's certificate to cover that necessary time spent in bed getting better, then University Health at Gawler Place Medical Practice is a great place to go.

Similarly, if you need a script filled, or some other easy and uncomplicated health care, Uni Health is perfect. Students won't pay a cent and I recommend dropping in.

But if you have a complex or sensitive issue, these guys are quite bad, I'm sorry to say, and might end up making you feel less supported and more stressed.

I tried to discuss what should have been a fairly routine anxiety issue with one of the doctors, and was treated as if I was trying to get a doctors' certificate so I could slack off on studying. (I'm a super committed student and don't need to lie to get a doctors' certificate).

I'd come in to Uni Care because they are closer to Uni than my regular doctor. Getting a cold response to my queries and issues, I tried to explain my anxiety issues in more detail, and develop a doctor-patient relationship with the doctor, but was dismissed blankly. The doctor wouldn't even look at the supporting documents I'd brought with me from another doctor which gave more information on my anxiety issues! I realised I would have to go see my regular doctor anyway. A waste of time. Why would she not look at my supporting documents? That's crazy.

I am surprised their website states explicitly that they deal with: "Health education and advice including sex, contraception, stress, mental health and depression, diet, family issues, drugs and alcohol."

In my view, the two doctors I've seen have not been helpful, sensitive and caring about these sorts of personal issues. There are other, kinder, doctors who bulk bill for those on health care cards.

As I've said; this Doctor's surgery is fabulous if you just need something routine and easy done, or if you have clearly visible signs of sickness that can be documented for a doctors' certificate. (They won't give you a certificate if, for instance, you have a migraine, because you might be lying to get out of assessments etc!)

But for complex issues, anxiety, and any issue where a non-judgemental and sensitive approach is needed, I would recommend going to a different doctor.

I don't usually go to this clinic but I went there to get my flu vaccination recently. The waiting area over is comfortable and the receptionist is friendly as well =). In terms of price (consultation), it is free of charge for Uni Students!

It is a good place to go. They almost always have available appointment which means you could come as soon as possible. The staff are friendly and the location is ideal, right in the CBD. They also do bulk billing, so no need to pay anything, just bring your medical insurance card.
