Okay, the coffee isn't "amazing," but it's good, and it is consistent. The staff are always friendly and calm and I usually frequent the place every day I work. I do avoid it when there's more than one or two people waiting for takeaway though as it can take a while to be made.

Wow , I love the food here. Beautiful, rustic (but formal if that works) and thoughtful. I like that the menu is short and seasonal. You know that your going to eat the very best of whats in season. Winter is a treat . perfect carrots and yummy mushrooms. I love the wine list here. A great range of reds. Great building and ambiance with candles lit .... its romantic !. Great for date night or girls catch up. Love it

Agree with the previous reviewer about the difficulty with no menus and needing to get up to read the blackboard.
Our party of three very much enjoyed what we ate. The pappardelle with mushrooms was superb.
Service was excellent.

The restaurant is down an Alleyway in what looks like an old bakery and has a nice rustic feel. However we were seated in a room off the main room which wasn't quiet as cozy as the main one. The one thing that I really disliked was that they don't have menus and I had to stand in front of someone else's table to read the board as I couldn't read it from my seat..very annoying and makes it difficult to decide and remember what to order. I didn't really like my food but my husband was impressed with his so guess it depends on what you order. The service was very good, the waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. Overall a very average experience and I regretted going there when there are so many other better restaurants in Melbourne City and wouldn't go back.

Gills Diner has some excellent qualities, yes. An amazing room, good looking staff and a whole lot of interesting booze, but damn, the food. A little bit shabby folks. Decent bread is brought out followed by “my worst dish of the year”, veal shank with gremolata and potatoes and blah blah blah. I'll tell you what it came with alright. No bloody flavour! The most boring dish of my life
