We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted with smiles and quickly seated and a high chair produced for our young son. On the advice of our friends we all chose from the lunch special - around 20 different dishes - you get a main, a bowl of soup and a drink for $8.50. We also got some spring rolls. The soup arrived almost immediately and was warm and satisfying (it could have used a touch of salt and pepper - but there was none to be found) The spring rolls tasted great, but were a bit on the small side. My main was a pepper beef dish - the serving size was ample and the dish warm and well seasoned - I really enjoyed it. We each ordered a different meal and everyone enjoyed theirs - from curry chicken to a noodle dish. The service throughout was warm and friendly and the restaurant was nearly full with families enjoying lunch. I would recommend for a quick, well priced, yummy lunch.

Approximate cost: $8.50

Great service, great food, can sometimes be a little pricey but worth it. I'm a sucker for Chinese food. I really am and this is my hot spot for my chinese meals.

Want a great lunch special come here full take away box of what you choose for $9, full smorgasbord lunch or menu choice and general menu for dinner. They also deliver.
Large spacious dining area that is well decorated and very pleasant staff.
The food is just great and not too expensive, family friendly an enjoyable place to have a meal

We had been to this restaurant a few times for lunch but recently we went for the first time for dinner. We went on a weeknight, but the restaurant was still almost full - a testament to the quality of meals.

However, service was efficient but not warm or friendly at all - both waitresses and the head waiter were abrupt and a little rude when answering questions and taking orders. Even something as little as asking for a menu was greeted with a surly expression. Wine was served quickly but no ice bucket was provided, though our glasses were topped up promptly by the unfriendly waitress. There was also one waitress who was probably a little inexperienced, as she struggled with carrying our dishes.

Dishes came quickly, all at once. Quality and flavour of the food is pretty good, though we were a bit disappointed with the Mongolian beef served on a sizzling plate - it was a bit soggy and had far too much shallots. We might ask for onions instead of shallots next time if we order this dish again.

Value-wise it's great, portion sizes are generous for very reasonable prices. All in all, it is quite a nice restaurant with a decent ambience (they renovated last year, updating the decor) that serves good value meals but they definitely need to improve their service.

Approximate cost: $20 - $25

I found the same thing at luch once when I went. I am disable a use a walking stick, I was shoved out of the way and the stick was almost taken from under me, when one of them SHOVED past me. I fond them to be extremely rude on this day. Other days however they have been great.

I would put it down to the staff having a disagreement of sorts.

After reading a review of this place we actually went down to Bendigo to try them out.. we too have children and the staff were lovely.. the restaurant was nice and quite and the suggested Spicy Pork was a winner.. Thanks jo101 for your review, I think we've found a new Chinese Resturant to frequent.

Approximate cost: $13.5

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant in Bendigo. We take our two young children with us and the staff are lovely with them and can't do enough for them. The lunch menu is pretty stock standard fare, but good value. The chefs specials though are a real winner, and if you love spicy food then the twice cooked spicy pork is worth a try, just have a jug of water handy.

The Golden Star Chinese & Malaysian Restaurant was a bit dark and dingy but have always put on a good spread.
There recent upgrades have turned out very nice now also offering a Full Yum Cha day.
There are function rooms available for any occasion they offer Fine Dinning also.
FREE home delivery if the order is $30.
Lunch menu has changed for the smorgasbord they did offer to a really nice menu consisting of a drink, chicken and sweet corn soup ad main choose for a great lunch time menu, something for everyone on there.

Parking out front, also not to far away is the car park next to Rivers.

WOW, How a place can change in such a short time.
We went there for Lunch during the week and a Wednesday. They were busy-ish? not so bad you would think to receive such a rude member of staff.
On leaving the table going to pay for our lunch I was Shoved passed by a female member of staff rushing past me to clean off our table, as I walked toward her to ask her to place the Huge amount of food left on the table to a container to take with us, she shoved again past me in some sort of temper.
I was Not impressed by this as I use a walking stick and am very unsteady on my feet on the best of days.
I tried to tell her I was going to ask her about the container thing, then she stormed off into the kitchen and in Chinese yelled at staff something.
I told her I was not going to pay for that meal she dumped in the bin as it was a full meal untouched, with that she rudely said something in Chinese again at the top of her voice to the man I was paying, with this I said it would be polite to speck in English as she was talking about me.
Her body language was so bad as were her hand gesture's and the tone of her voice seemed so rude also.

I understand that people like to speak their own language but in this case I found it totally inappropriate.
I Will Not be returning here again as Bendigo is not short of lovely restaurants to which to dine.
