As an aged care consultant I have been to this aged care facility many times. The previous review shocked me as it is so inaccurate. The place is spotless, the staff careing and knowledgeable and the residents are very happy. While the facility did have compliance issues many years ago, they met the standards in the given time frames and have never had another issues depite many visits by the accreditation agency and the Department. I can only assume the former review came from relatives with issues that relate outside of the auspices of the facility. I am not employed by this facility but on both a personal and professional level, I hold it in high esteem.

Grace of Mary Greek Hostel was sanctioned by the Government in 2005-06 for failing to meet basic accreditation standards. The hostel only passed 16 out of 44 accreditation standards. Failing one standard would result in a sanction. This hostel failed not one but 28 and the Accreditation Agency found the Hostel was a serious risk to residents. In my opinion, this facility is not appropriate particualrly if you or your relative has health issues, the standards continue to fall far below what they should to house residents and this is exaccerbated by the hostel's approach which is not forthcoming in addressing issues openly and in good faith or appropriately equipped with knowledgable staff. Major issues have occured at this hostel (eg helicopter searches for absconding resident due to lack of appropriate security - where does one start) and Grace of Mary is unable/unwilling to appropriately address the issues. Grace of Mary therefore continues to have problems in the proper care of their residents. In my experience and others, the hostel is dirty, very dirty and has had major outbreaks in illnesses.

This is one of the best hostels that I have personally seen. They are always very clean. They treat the patients like they are family. In fact the entire environment is like a family just larger. The staff are always trying to find ways to make the patients more comfortable and they continually hold events and outings for entertainment.
