Yum yum yum I love Mexican and this is higher calibre and more creative a menu than mainstream Montezumas I can't fault it

Very disappointed!!!! Felt like some Mexican for my birthday, so my husband suggested we try this restaurant. From the moment we arrived it was not welcoming, it felt more like, oh another customer to serve.
We thought, well, we have driven all this way so we all ordered an entree, my husband and I tried the nachos and our friends wanted to try some enchilada's. When the nachos arrived, we thought they had made a mistake and given us something else because they did not resemble nachos (we have had nachos many times). We tried them and were not impressed, our friends didn't think much of their enchilada's. So instead of ordering a main meal we decided to just have the entrees and leave and have my birthday dinner elsewhere.
Maybe they just were not in the mood for customers on the night we went, but it wasn't pleasant and we certainly will not be returning or recommending them to anyone.

Approximate cost: $16+

Gringos was a Glenelg institution - I reckon the first time I went must have been nearly 20 years ago...

It's recently been renovated and has unfortunately lost some of it's charm & atmosphere. The new decor is nice; I noticed one of the Latin American countries on the wall painting was spelt incorrectly (and it would have been incorrect in spanish or english so it wasn't a translation thing); but then I think I'm the only person that notices these things. In fact why I mentioned it on Womo I don't quite know....

Anyhoo, the furnishings are ok, the new plates and table accessories were definitely a nice improvement, but overall atmosphere has suffered.

The food as well is not quite as nice as it used to be. It was always formulaic, but in a good way; overflowing nachos etc. Now the nachos is just kind of slapped together and there's more tortilla chips than topping. Other plates were just average.

Service was ok, but nothing standout. The place wasn't that busy but service was still a bit slow; they did help us out with extra napkins though which was nice (baby was in tow).

Having the baby in pram was ok, though I think we were lucky it wasn't busy as we might not have had room to maneuver - as it was we settled for the table closest to the entrance to not have to try and navigate the tables and chairs. I'd say don't try with a pram if it's packed.

Overall - it's just another new restaraunt with mediocre food in a great location. Don't come here expecting the old Gringos and you'll be fine.

Approximate cost: $20.00

Tried this restaurant and was so disappointed, service was terrible and have to say the food was the same. Very average.

This place has been at Glenelg for ages and has recently had a facelift. I think it may be in the hands of new owners - I'm not sure about this. In any case, we've been going here for years but have noticed that things have started to slide of late.

Don't get me wrong, the food is still pretty tasty, it's just that it used to be better. And the service seems to have dropped lately. We were ignored for much of our dinner which can be difficult and cause some problems.

Good thing to see that they now take bookings for less than 4 people now - they never used to before.

Overall good. I'll probably go again because I'm nearby but it's on par with many other mexican restaurants.

Approximate cost: $15

I have been going here for years. Usually get the nachos, the burritos are also good and they make fantastic margaritas. Fast and efficient service, even when they are flat out. The meals are well priced, good location, but the place was looking a little old and tired. It will be interesting to see what it will look like when it re opens.

Approximate cost: $20

Its closed at the moment for renovations but i love this place. I am a massive fan of there nachos and my husband loves there tacos. Great service a nice place to eat close to the beach and its only over the road from the tram stop.

Gringo's has authentic Mexican food. The nachos are the greatest thing here - make sure you get a plate to share, or even better, one for yourself!
When we went last, there was only one table occupied, but still we were seated right next to the toilet! We moved to a different table ourselves.
Overall, this is great if you love Mexican food. There are no alternatives, so make sure everyone in your group likes Mexican!

We had a very tasty meal in a serving so big I couldn't finish it. The atmosphere was fun and we had a great time. The restaurant was a little crowded but other than that everything was great.
