My bedroom furniture was left haphazardly was filthy and no instructions on how to assemble it. I rang the store first lady was understanding guy who rang me back attacked me with no apology for the condition of the furniture i bought that was not cheap.(over $7000) I was not told it needed a drill to assemble. His response was you should have paid $50 per month for storage. There were no Instructions. I am a visual learner no point in telling me i need to see what to do. I ended the conversation by telling the guy i suggest in future to listen to the customer then find a solution not attack as that just inflames both parties. I strongly suggest you not use Harvey Norman to buy any furniture. The cupboards have several dark marks on them there was no apology for that. I strongly suggest you not deal with them and so save yourself any aggrevation.

I firstly would like to clarify I am reviewing the Furniture department.

All departments are run independently apparently and I have had no trouble with the service in the technology area.

I would also like to add even after writing on facebook, twitter, review sites like this one and forums, Not 1 person from Harvey Norman has contacted me!

6 months ago I moved to Perth from Sydney with my boyfriend. We needed to furnish our house and we wanted to do it right with quality furniture that would last. We figured Harvey Norman would be a good place to start as they supposedly pride themselves on Customer Service.

The customer service was fine right up until the furniture was delivered to our front door.

We had purchased a tv unit, 2 very expensive (but comfortable) office chairs and a 7 seater couch with 2 consoles.

When everything arrived we first opened the office chairs.. The bases were broken. The part that was broken was just part of the aesthetics and did not affect the function of the chair. However when you buy new things you dont want them broken

We called Harvey Norman who advised us that we would have to bring the chairs back in for them to look at. When we did take them in for someone to look at, they told us no one was there that had any authority so we would have to come back.

We went back another time and they agreed to send us out replacement base parts

When the base parts arrived they did not fit. But when we spoke to the manager at the store they just snobbed us telling us we must be putting it together wrong as it was the right piece

After numerous phone calls, they agreed to send a staff member to our house to view the item. As soon as he saw the chair and the replacement part he agree it was the wrong part. He then proceeded to call his manager who then laughed at him on the phone and told him to bring it to the store as they didnt believe him either.

Why bother sending out an employee to check something if you don't trust them!

About 2 months after purchase we received our new chairs.

Couch-
the corner piece of the couch has a zip on the back of the couch which was broken.
we called Harvey Norman who advised us that we needed to send them pictures as we were not able to take the couch to the store to be viewed. After i emailed them pictures. they sent 2 guys out to take pictures and write up a report.
We were in the process of scotch guarding the couch when we had noticed. and had already spent $200 on scotch guard.
We were then told they could not replace the corner piece as it may be a slightly different colour to the rest of the couch. So the manager offered to scotch guard the new couch for us and give us the scotch guard insurance policy for all the trouble we have had.

We thought that was very generous so when they told us it would take a further month or so before we had a couch we did not complain. However after a month when we called they told us that the shipment did not arrive and we needed to wait another 6 weeks for the next shipment.

When the lounge did finally arrive 6 months after we purchased it.. the delivery guys had no information on them to prove it had been scotch guarded. We knew that with everything we had already been through if we accepted this couch and it had not been scotch guarded we would never get the scotch guarding and we would end up having to pay another $200 to get it done..

So we called Harvey Norman Malaga who advised us the manager was on holidays till Monday and that there was nothing on the system about scotch guard so we could either take the couch or wait till Monday.

We let the delivery guys go and waited till Monday to call Harvey Norman again. When we spoke to the manager she pretty much told us we were LIARS! and that she would never offer to give us the warranty with the scotch guard and it was our own fault we didnt have a couch cause we sent the delivery guys away.

It has now been nearly 7 months since we purchased the couch and we still have the broken couch sitting in our lounge room. We have called Harvey Norman Numerous times and each time we call they tell us they have call the manufacturer to organise a time to re-deliver our couch and they play the victim in this whole situation.

Tv unit- also arrived broken and all scratched at the front. We asked for a replacement as we did like the look of the unit but after 2 months they told us they would just give us a refund. we though had to continue to call them to see what was happening as they did not keep us up to date

I though the whole point of having shops and stores was for the face to face customer service. Franky I have had much better service from our online experiences when things have gone wrong. They are quick to fix anything apologize for any inconvenience and most offer you something for your troubles.

I will never be purchasing anything from HARVEY NORMAN MALAGA- furniture department and I would advise everyone else to steer clear!

while they may be pleasant while you are handing over your cash.. once they have it they don't give a shit about you!

Oh on another point don't bother filling out their complainants form on their website or Facebook. the complaint only gets redirected to the store your complaining about.. which they then mark as settled...

If only Gerry Harvey knew what was going on... then maybe he would understand why so many choose to shop online.

Hi SoccerTed, we had not heard that selected departments (within Harvey Norman) were independently run and find this most interesting. Why you decided to shop at Harvey Norman (when you were seeking ‘quality-made’ merchandise) is beyond us and we can only assume it comes down to lack of experience, which essentially happens to us all at some point in time. To say that your experience was deplorable would be an understatement! Not only has this business breeched ‘Fair Trade’ legislation, they have proved to be totally unethical in their dealings. We would strongly recommend that you lodge a ‘formal’ complaint with the ACCC, as it is not too late to proceed and have the matter rectified. (Given that you appear to have retained concise notes regarding your dealings with this business, this will be most advantageous and allow the process to run in a more efficient manner.) Keep in mind that if you complain to the ‘right’ authorities, the afore-mentioned business risks losing their affiliation with the Harvey Norman name, which will be both costly and humiliating for them. If the business in question has the audacity to complain about your review, we strongly recommend that you work with WOMO to allow your review to remain active. (After all, WOMO was designed to allow consumers to find the ‘reputable’ business and avoid the ‘dodgy’ ones.) We would also recommend that you write a letter to Gerry Harvey, detailing your experiences, as he is usually most interested to hear when a business (carrying his name) is acting unlawfully. While it was kind of Ms. Steddy to offer her below-mentioned suggestion, you should have been hearing from the Manager at Harvey Norman. Should you require any additional information (or assistance) in relation to your complaint, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Illegitimi non carborundum, Reeces

Thanks Reeces, I did try on many occasions to report the matter further up the chain but really no one is interested. Since then i have moved back to sydney and really don't want to remember the saga.

I was shopping for quality furniture but we had been given a gift card for harvey norman. We weren't originally going to look there but did so only because of the voucher.
Thanks so much for the help and information i will keep it in mind if.

Photos are very cheap to develop and are ready most of the time on the same day, they have a great electrical section and have bought al of my white goods from them

Great range of products, particularly the furniture. The prices aren't very competitive. I think it is thier interest free offers that lure people in. I know I can always find a better price elsewhere.
