I have given overall 3 as I have had 1 good experience and 1 very bad experience. My bad experience - we got to the restaurant and despite having a booking and getting there on time it took 10 minutes to be seated. It then took a further 15 minutes to even bring us water or a menu to look at. From there we had to call someone over to take our order 20 minutes later so after almost an hour we finally placed our order, we were ready to walk out. It then took a further hour for our meals to arrive. We were so angry I don't even remember if the food was good. They had a large group in and we would have preferred if they just told us they had the group and there would be delays or tell us to come earlier or later. The good time - service was so much better, food was really nice (I like the beef as I don't eat seafood), there was 5 of us and no long wait times etc. Restaurant is looking a bit old - we went here because it was in the entertainment book (both times) but probably wouldn't go back there unless we got another entertainment book voucher

I had the Hayashi Special Meal. It looked small however when you began to eat it became very filling. The food took some time to come but it tasted very good. Money well spent.

Hayashi is one of those unassuming suburban restaurants that are a well-kept secret with the locals. The cuisine is Japanese, and the sashimi (salmon, tuna, octopus and scallop) is always fresh. Parking can be a bit of a problem due to the pub next door, but it's well worth the effort. The owner is a sweetheart.

Food is not bad here. The setting is neat and has a Japanese feel with bamboo used in appropriate places. I admire the wooden bowls, plates and chopsticks with flowers painted on it which adds to the dining experience as much as the food itself.
