I have been visiting this place since it opened many years ago. Upon entering you will experience the most amazing smell of charcoal chicken & chips. The shop is exceptionally clean & includes a wonderful selection of salads. My favourite is their chips & gravy. This place is always busy and they even have an ATM machine. I highly recommend this establishment for chicken, chips & salad.

Approximate cost: $10-$20

You've gotta love these guys. On the way home from a long day, stressed and tired. Kids say "What's to eat?" the minute you get in the door. Drop into Hot Wings and your problem is solved.

They have a good range of chicken and salad options to suit most tastes, the food is always cooked fresh ... literally ... right before your eyes. There's a charcoal chicken cooker in the corner and the chip baskets just keep getting tipped out into the serving trays over and over. Even on the busy times, you don't have to wait much as the food is constantly being made.

Their servings are very generous - for a medium/large chips they fill up a paper bag, put this into a plastic bag and then add another scoop of chips to the lot. Always tasty and crisp.

The chickens are nicely cooked, juicy and delicious.

I also like the scalloped potato - creamy sauce, little pepper, cheese on top. A touch expensive compared to the chips but it's worth it.

Shop is on the corner of Ferguson and Williamstown Roads, in an old service station location, so there's parking on site but not much along the main road as it's right on a roundabout corner, so watch out when you drive away.

I particularly like that the girl/girls on the till are so friendly, but they are not the ones that get your food - so no touching money and then the stuff you are going to eat. They pass the order along and a busy bunch of young people fill your order while an older gentleman is in charge of the chickens exclusively and two older guys run the chip fryers.

There are salads, peas, etc and you can have gravy (but I don't). There are also desserts but I haven't tried that. There's a drink fridge too and a cash machine of some sort.

You can eat in - there are tables inside and outside - watch out for the hungry seagulls!

After school is not the best time because then it's full of hungry children (hope they ate the lunch their mum made).

Recently there was a small fire in their kitchen area and they were closed for a few days while a new area was tiled and replaced. But they are back now better than ever.

Only quibble is they don't open late - by 8.00 pm they are shut or sometimes earlier.

So I really recommend them and it's nice to support a local place which employs local youngsters too. All wear a coloured top uniform which is cute.

So the name says it all really, hot, fresh, reasonable price and so convenient.

Approximate cost: $Depends - big chicken about $12, medium chips about $4 and then you could get some corn etc. You ge

Hot wings is a Williamstown institution. The chicken is nice, with good stuffing included. They have a range of packs available, but the one that we usually go for is the family value one, with one extra large chook, large chips, large gravy and large peas for about $24, which I think is excellent value. Good selection of drinks and salads available. And the chips! I've never seen a take away place be so generous with what they give, and I think they are the yummiest chips I've ever had as well. Only negative is the lack of eftpos, but there is one of those generic ATM's in store so you can cash out to pay for it that way. Fantastic and consistent value!
