Excellent bar on Flinders Lane. Very good specials every night, both in food and drink (and the food is pretty good - the Peruvian chicken buckets are a winner). The atmosphere varies, depending on the night. Friday nights it tends to be a great place to go from 5 o'clock.

Ok, so for starters, its not cheap, but it is totally worth it. The venue itself is very classy - the artwork on the walls is seriously impressive. The service is top notch - they are all very attentive. But the food is why you come here.
Can not recommend this restaurant enough. The food is top quality. If you like Asian, then this is the place for you!

Wow wow wow...just wow! Its not easy to find, basically its down 2 different alleys, but its worth the effort.
For starters, its small, but they limit the number of clientele to 10 (or 12...the number seems a little bit fluid), and that gives it a very intimate feel. Its like you are stepping back into some kind of old school bar. There is a bit of theatre - the barman dresses the part, the mixing of the drinks, the ice cubes (you need to see them to believe them). Then, the drinks...they are nothing short of amazing. It does cocktails and not much else, so don't go here thinking you are going to get a VB on tap. And its not particularly cheap - the cocktails we had were approx. $25 each, but they were worth it.
If you are looking to take someone somewhere that is unique, intimate, classy, and very very impressive, then this is the place to go.

This review is for magic mountain saloon, Melbourne VIC

Went with several work colleagues to Magic Mountain Saloon last night and was very impressed not only by the venue and the service but OMG the food - we did the banquet and it was nothing short of sensational.
The Beef jerky was tender and beautiful, the lamb and potato curry was flavoursome and just the right amount of spicy, the beef shin was to die for, the cauliflower and pumpkin salad was tasty...everything was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of it - no one went hungry.
It wasn't cheap - the meal (plus drinks, including quite a few cocktails and bottles of wine) for 10 of us came to $1000 - but when you average it out it really isn't so bad. Would definitely recommend for big groups who want something a little different and a whole lot awesome.

This review is for Hawkers Lane, Newport VIC

Since discovering this surprising addition to the Newport culinary scene its quickly become a firm family favourite, and based on the number of diners that are there whenever I go its also become a bit of a hit in the wider community as well.
The meals are traditional Malaysian - I cant lay claim to have tried them all but the ones I have had are very tasty indeed, and very authentic (I have been to Malaysia many many times and so speak from experience). The menu has a great range of dishes and the staff are really lovely. You can eat in but there isn't a lot of room - seats are limited. That, and the fact that they are a cash only business are my only 2 gripes regarding this place.
If you want something fresh, inspired, Asian, and cheap(ish), and feel like you need a break from Thai food, then this is the place for you!

This review is for Walk This Way Noodle And Rice, Williamstown VIC

Only been here recently despite living in the area for over 9 years, based on the reviews by other WOMO members. I am pleased to report that they do not over exaggerate this place at all. Once you get past the cheap decor of the place you are in for a treat - the fried rice is AMAZING and cheap! The service is very fast - I was waiting 4 minutes tops. The flavours were beautiful and fresh.
Will definitely be coming back here!

This review is for Candied Bakery, Spotswood VIC

verified email - 01 Apr 2013

This is one of Spotswoods best kept secrets - an awesome bakery that does some seriously good bread, pies, lamingtons, and hot cross buns that have recently been voted the best in Melbourne (expensive though - over $13 for a half dozen is a bit rich for me to do more than once. They were pretty damn good though!).
They arent open every day, just Wednesday through to Sunday. Well worth a visit - particularly if you live in Spotswood - as they do some seriously yummy (if expensive) food.

SERIOUSLY good dumplings from here - some of the best that I have tasted actually. I ordered take away for a group of us and the staff were pleasant and efficient - offering us a table while we waited for our order to be cooked and providing us with tea. The food was clearly fresh, and freshly cooked - the BBQ pork buns were a standout. The prices were very reasonable given the quality of the product. Will definitely be dining here again, and soon!

Awesome new Vietnamese place that sells some seriously tasty stuff. The Pho is pretty damn good (and cheap at only $9), as are the rice paper rolls and the pork buns. They use fresh ingrediants, the staff are friendly...this is a great find!

This review is for The Metropolitan, Melbourne VIC

verified email - 16 Mar 2013

Went to the Metropolitan after work the other night with colleagues for a few drinks and a meal. Firstly, the drinks. Excellent range of beers on tap and bottled craft beers as well. That's about all I can write about because that's about all we had! The average cost of a pint was somewhere between $10 and $11 so not too bad. Some of the trappist-style beers were around $14 I think, but they were poured at the table into the most unique beer glasses I have ever seen, so that was an experience.
The meal itself was delicious! I had the lamb osso bucco and certainly didn't regret it - it was perfect, with the meat falling away from the bone at the slightest touch. The rest of the table had parma (huge!), pizza, and steak, all of which were devoured.
The service was fast, but a little lacking at times in the personality stakes, but that said they met our every needs so hats off to them. The seating area is pretty generous - they aren't cramming tables and chairs in, so you've got some room which is nice.
The one downside I can think of is that the toilets are all the way upstairs. Great if you want to work in a little cardio into your drinking and dining session, but most of us probably aren't too interested in that.

Approximate cost: $19
