I'm happy to be proven wrong... I have revisited Jefferies since my last review and the cafe has improved. Service is now based on next in line and regulars aren't favoured. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. This supermarket has a fantastic range of niche products and "home made" food and cakes which are delicious. I do find them very expensive, though, which is why I'm only giving 4 stars and not 5.

This IGA has a fantastic range of niche products you would normally only find in specialty stores. However the prices in some cases for these products are higher than I pay in specialty stores in Doncaster. The service isn't fantastic. Their little coffee area is a great idea however the staff are not always friendly or efficient. They make coffees out of order if a regular or someone they know comes in, which isn't fair on others who have waited their turn in line. The muffins they make themselves are fresh and delicious but the pastries they get in from the Hungarian Bakehouse are NOT fresh every day, despite what they tell customers (funny how they have "fresh" pastries from the Bakehouse on days they are closed). They are often a day or two old. If you're after a pastry, you're better off heading down the road and visiting the Hungarian Bakehouse directly.

Hi melbournegirl85,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the cafe, we will be looking into your comments about the service and order of coffee. As a completely independent (non IGA - we dropped that about 5 years ago) store, we really put customer service as a high priority and take it seriously, but unfortunately in your case we dropped the ball, i apologize for that.

As for the comment on the pastries, our supplier is Mt Dandenong Bakery and has since June 2015. They deliver to us everyday of the year, if they are not baking on a particular day (which is rare) we don't get a delivery or carry over day old stock.

If you are in our store again please make yourself known to myself, i want to do right for the service you received and shout you a coffee and also give you a taste of Mt Dandenong Bakery's pastries, i personally would like to know your feedback on them after trying them.

I appreciate your review as we are always looking for ways to improve our offer. Looking forward to meeting with you.

Thanks Shane, I appreciate your feedback on my review and the information you provided. It has been a long time now since I last visited your Caf given my previous experiences, but I will definitely give it another go and try your new pastries. Im impressed with your follow-up so Im looking forward to visiting again and hopefully having a much more positive experience.

expensive but local produce and super fresh, organic super supermarket. Bakery goods are to die for. ready made meals - everything is gourmet and then some.
Be aware this is an area heavily populated by private schools and organic lifestyles. they have the most amazing range of teas and coffee and it is really fun just walking through and seeing what is available. If you are wanting to make a hamper or grab a treat gift this is a great place to call in

I only shop at IGA staff friendly reasonabke prices but the fact they support our dairy farmers is a bigger reason to buy at IGA

My local supermarket, I come here often. For a small supermarket, it's surprisingly well stocked (including lots of fancy health foods), though the prices are a little unreasonable. You could get the same things for cheaper at the Coles on Kent Avenue, though I am aware that the prices are intentionally jacked up to suit the high-income lifestyle of Croydon Hills residents. I suck it up and roll with it.

Approximate cost: $20

very very expensive here but oh what a selection of gourmet produce! From things like simply no knead; maggie beer and every sort of gourmet sauce/chocolate/spreads/yarra valley cheeses etc! I look and drool at what is on offer. Can't afford it but its great if you want a gourmet item that you cant get from your normal supermarket or you want to impress some friends! Lovely staff and the bottle shop is great too for such a small place!

Great store with a huge variety. The new addition of the cafe is great for when you need to pop in and grab lunch, too! Staff are helpful and friendly.

Jeffries IGA is small and friendly and not only stocks everything I want but it stocks lots of local goods too, and many interesting things you don't see elsewhere. Easy to race in a busy a quick dinner from the deli with their roast chickens and potatoes, pies, fresh soups etc. Knocks the socks off Coles and Woolies.
