I got a building inspection done with Andrew, who does all over Adelaide. I was genuinely very impressed with his depth of knowledge in everything regarding building.
Andrew was good enough to tolerate me watching the entire inspection. He did a very thorough job and found so many things I would have never found! He took almost 2 hours to do the full inspection and sent me the report the same day. The report came to 36 pages, included heaps of pictures and was easy to read. Still, I gave him a call to clarify a few things and he patiently explained all my questions.
I was trying to skimp on costs as much as possible and reluctant to even pay a building inspection. Before the inspection I thought I bought the property at a very good price. After the inspection I now think it is $30,000-$40,000 overpriced!! And I'm going to negotiate this down. Imagine trying to save ~$400 for the building inspection and then paying $40,000 too much!! How stupid!
Disclaimer: this is my first inspection so I can't compare.
Nonetheless, I highly recommend Andrew after my experience and I never will compare as I will call him back every time.

Also a tip is to be realistic.
No inspector can tell you about things they can't see. But they should disclose things they can't get to and where there may be a risk (as was clearly stated in my report).
Also if you get a basic building inspection (as I did) then whereever there are issues the inspector can't tell you everything and will suggest getting other inspections (e.g., pest, asbestos, structural engineers report).
