I have been going to John for over 20 years.
When I get my hair styled for a night out it is different to the other times. It is so refreshing. You get your standard blow drys at any other place and it is always the same. John does a unique gorgeous look each time. Amazing with scissors and colours too. I have a friend who travels from interstate to get her hair cut with him too. Amazing!

Initially my sister and I were told us the charges were $45 for wash and blowdry. Once we were done he charged us $80. My sister went back for a cut only and was charged MUCH more, $180. He also gave her a creepy vibe and would not recommend for a young woman to go alone. He delved into his interest in sleeping with women repeatedly.

If you buy a voucher be prepared to spend more when you are there ($20 for cutting "long" hair, $50 extra for toner with a colour so that it doesn't go brassy) after buying the voucher for cut and colour.
At one point during my visit there was a girl (customer) standing at the desk crying while John Azzi yelled at her because he'd given her more services than what was on her voucher (without telling her, I presume) and then wanting payment for it (which she didn't have). It also took 3.5 hours and my balayage was done with foils and looks average at best.

I'm writing here to let everyone knows John's behavior. I went to Jonh Azzi salon to do a trial as hairdresser. On my arrival I asked John how long the trial would last, he said few hours. I've been working there all the day from 10 am to 7.30 pm. At that point John wanted to talk to me.
He said I could start working for him even the following day. He said also the "trial day" would have been paid. But he didn't. I've contacted him three times but nothing to do.
John Azzi you are an amazing person!!!

This was honestly the best hairdressing experience that I have ever had and I have had MANY. The atmosphere of the place was great first of all - Felt VERY classy and is in a great location and it was not crowded or chaotic in there as they do bookings so I felt very relaxed AND they gave me tea. But most of all, the girls were lovely but John himself was AMAZING. You could tell that he is very passionate and takes pride in his work and really just has his customers' best interest at heart. He gave me a haircut that was not a drastic change but it was the best cut I've had because he focuses on the little details and left my hair looking super fresh and I am still so happy. Overall it was just a great experience left me leaving with confidence!

I bought a Groupon for a balayage. I usually have highlights and told the stylist that I get 2 blonde highlights and a low light. The stylist put one blonde in my hair, now my hair looks blocky. They put toner on my hair which is an extra $20 which is fine as it's in the fine print, but my hair was very yellow and I was left with toner in my hair sitting in the chair where they wash your hair for a good 20 minutes. I also asked for layers through my hair they didn't do any of this. I was asked how I wanted my hair blown dried, I asked for it to be straight but with volume at the top. The stylist told me to bend over while I was sitting in the chair so she could blow dry my hair upside down to give it volume but then carried on blow drying my hair while I was in the same position. I was uncomfortable in this position as my neck was hurting and normally in every other salon you are able to sit up while they blow-dry your hair. Never had this before in my life. I also had to pay an extra $20 as my hair is past my shoulders.

Bought a groupon for balayage for 130 - had to pay extra 45 for toner. Arrived at salon to friendly staff, offered refreshments immediately, which was nice. I was told that I was "extremely lucky" because my hairdresser was sick and he would be cutting my hair today. I told him I was happy with my hair cut (having just had a dramatic cut four weeks ago, which I loved), but he said my hair was terrible and that he would improve it. He quicky blow dried my non heat protected hair from my GHD curls to some sort of almost straight frizz... Was not happy with that. I went along with it, because I'm non-confrontational, and he layered my hair a lot while keeping the length. I wasn't too pleased but it wasn't terrible, so that's not the big deal. After the rough haircut (took approximately 5 minutes), I was shown to my colorist, who I gave a bunch of photos to. The goal was to get a warm chocolatey brown colour which was subtle and gradual. The colourist left bleach in my hair for 20 minutes, then checked, and decided it wasn't enough, and left it for a further 20. By then, my hair was pretty damaged (even though I started with pretty healthy hair). She proceeded to put toner in. After a rough dry, my hair was thoroughly orange. I hated it. It wasn't what I wanted, not at all like the pictures I showed her. Then I was handed over to a girl (who I assumed was an intern or something). I asked her for natural waves, polished but touchable. She told me she wasn't sure how to do waves on hair. So she dried it straight. [name removed] came along again and decided I was super lucky because he was going to style my hair. Without any regard to my preference, he gave me a GHD frizz curl which started at the base of my hair and sort of just fluffed outward. I have normal, straight asian hair. So you can imagine just how pleased I was to look like a lion. He asked me what I thought, and politely, stupidly, I said: it's fine. He huffed, and said: only fine? Before leaving my chair. I asked for polished and soft, and he gave me a heat damaged frizzy mess. I understand that fashion is sometimes confrontational, but I just wanted my hair to look nice. It didn't look nice. At all. When I left, I quickly put it up in a bun on top of my head and avoided eye contact with everyone. Not really a result you'd pay 185 for... and if I hadn't bought the groupon, that would have been a 300+ salon experience. Overall, though the staff was attentive, and, I suppose, nice enough, I didn't get what I asked for. My hair is now damaged (btw, no heat protection throughout the whole experience) and I walked out embarrassed about the state of my hair. Was it the worst experience? Some people have probably had worse, but in my books, I've never been unhappier walking out of a salon... And on occasion, I've paid only $30 for a chain store hair cut. So... book at your own risk.

I went to John Azzi for a Keratin treatment with a Groupon voucher. After asking if I could pay for a basic trim on top of the voucher, I was told it would be an extra $125!! No thank you. The hairdresser then said she could ask her boss and see what she could do, willing to 'barter' the price down to what I still saw as ridiculously expensive for a straight cut. I had 3 different people working on my hair during my 2.5 hour visit, with everyone seeming too busy to see one client through from start to finish. The final insult was when John Azzi himself told me that the existing colour of my haircut was unfashionable and that my haircut did nothing for me. Bizarre and rude way to encourage repeat business. I left feeling angry and self conscious about my hair. Never going back to John Azzi - poor customer treatment and snooty staff.

Approximate cost: $80
