A very basic post office with limited services being provided. I think the staff are quite pleasant but this has taken quite some time to come to this opinion as they were not initially very friendly but over time they have warmed up. Good for just basic services like paying bills and posting parcels but they do not do passports.
I went in to buy an envelope and a stamp to send a local letter. The staff member suggested I buy a pre-stamped envelope and I said sure whatever (I had just moved to Australia so had no idea what a local stamp cost). Anyway, it turned out that it was $1.20 for an envelope with prepaid postage, whereas if I had bought and envelope for 40c and a stamp for 60c I would have paid less. You rely on the post office to suggest the cheapest option for postage not the more expensive one. So I was not terribly impressed and won't be rushing back here.
Hi Choistie, Thanks for a frank description of your experience. However I am curious as to what gave you the idea that Australia Post would suggest a 'less expensive' option, as at the end of the day, its all money for the business in question. It is however beneficial that you made this discovery on a ‘minimally’ priced item and not on a more ‘expensive’ one. Australia Post is notorious for their inflated pricing and your example is one of many. E.g. Australia Post charges like a wounded bull to have documents witnessed, however this can be completed at your local police station ‘free’ of charge. But if you really want a ‘shock to the system’, you might want to look into their prices for having documents ‘faxed.’ Irrespective of this, we hope you have located a more ‘consumer-friendly’ Australia Post office nearby. :) Regards, Reeces
