This organisation knowingly illegally cut a protected gum tree.
The gum tree is protected due to its age (about 100 years) and size (girth larger than 1m).
By unevenly trimming it they breached the applicable standard, put the health of the tree in jeopardy, and made it more dangerous.

We had a problem with two trees in our backyard. One had to be totally removed ... unfortunately ... to make way for an extension on the house. This was done with care and safe work practise. All the children watched from the window, limbs were secured with ropes and cut to fall just the right way so it was away from the house. Then the stump was dug out and basically just a pile of mud remained.

The other tree was an aged plum tree, which I was loathe to get rid of, so it was trimmed and lopped and shaped and made much lighter and more healthy. The result was a nice crop of plums in the summer compared to a handful we got before.
