We were invited to an elaborate 9-course dinner. Service was very poor for restaurant standard - waitresses mainly Chinese students inexperienced in service.
Food was moderate. We were given dessert (fruit platter). The restaurant manager would give you a discount if you paid by cash, which is what our host did.
As a Chinese, I think this restaurant is not worth the price paid.

Every table in the restaurant (all with Chinese customers) was getting complimentary soup to start with, and complimentary dessert to finish. When we asked for the soup we were told it had run out - a lie as it was still being delivered to other tables after that. When we asked for the complimentary dessert we were told it was $3 per head. We asked other tables and they said they got it for free. The manageress was not interested and completely ignored us. Being lied to and treated like that spoiled the whole meal.

Approximate cost: $25

We were told that there was NO complimentary soup. Ordered 3 main courses and 2 was incorrect. They refused to take it back and didn't bring out the right one. They also ignored our request to order something else. When we paid, they were very rude about the incorrect order, not admitting fault. Overall their attitude was the worst I have ever experienced. Really bad customer service, will not recommend for others to go.

I always search for value tasty food. I have been there many times for lunch and dinner. They always have special crab/lobster set menu. The price is seasonal. Now for people of 4, $118 including live fish, mud crab, oyster, famous hakka chicken, vegetables with dried scallop soup and rice.

We have complimentary fruit platter and dessert. Good food, good value and good service. Highly recommended.

Approximate cost: $18

I completely disagree with your 5 star rating for service and value. We went there tonight for a family dinner and as we were a quite a large group ordering expensive dishes, we were told by the waiter that they were going to provide us with complimentary dishes. To our surprise, we were charged these meals at the end of the night and the hostess was very indifferent to our arguments. Furthermore, our meals were very slow to arrive and nearly all the plates and bowls were chipped. I would not return nor reccommend any of my friends to this restaurant.

We have been to Kum Tong perhaps 50 times over last few years and have generally been satisfied with the quality of food and service. However, last night we had such a bad experience we have vowed never to return. Four of us went for dinner, including my friend's wife who is Chinese(we are not Chinese). Service was very slow and not very friendly, but the quality of the food was quite good as usual. Our Chinese friend said that it is usual for Chinese guests to be provided with a free soup and/or dessert. when she requested this, they declined, saying that the Chinese guests were paying for their "free dessert". our friend, who is fluent in Chinese of course, asked the people on our neighbouring table and they said that it was free for them!. So, the restaurant has been guilty of not only racism but also telling a direct and outright lie.
when we paid the bill, I told the owner about this(remember we have been there 50 times), and she totally ignored what we told her.
This is only about a trivial amount of money, but the principles are huge, both a form of racism and lying! Never ever again! There will not be a 51st time!
