Very melbourne.
It is located on degraves st (which is more like a laneway) on the quieter end away from the cheap and cheerful, bustling busyness of the cafes and sandwich shops etc.
The food is nice, well presented and served generously. Think delights such as braised ox cheeks.
Nestled on Degraves St a little apart from the main hustle and bustle further up, where small round tables and metal warehouse chairs dominate, La Citta is a gem.
Unlike many of the places on Degraves St, La Citta is more of a bistro than a cafe. The style is casual refinement without the stiffness.
It feels very much like a real modern day bistro in the more well-to-do suburbs of Italy.
In terms of the food, the dishes and flavours are traditional and as close as authenticity as I have found, without a $$$ price tag.
Don't except mind-blowing ingenuious concoctions, but do expect the traditional old favourites, great quality and warm personal service.
My boyfriend and I spent an afternoon to lunch here while in the city. It's a bit pricey but we got the wagyu steak and the lamb shoulder out of the small set of options from the menu. Both were melt in your mouth delicious- so tender and sooo good. We'll be back!
