There website said they specialised in Alfa Romeos so we booked a oil change and a brake repair. Mechanics came out and told me that I didn't have a brake boost in the car so the brakes would never be perfect....hmmm. Then they came up with a couple of minor leaks that was going to cost over $1000. Quoted $320.00 for the service and the total of the bill was $560 plus. Brakes no better. Spoke to Alfa specialist and was told exactly where the brake booster was....never again. My husband will be disputing this bill. Also charged half hour labour to rotate tires which were already off the car for the break inspection.

Approximate cost: $562.86

Brake boosters are easy to spot - big disc behind the master cylinder. I think what the mechanic was trying to say was that they can develop vacuum leaks and this impacts on the amount of servo boost available, reducing brake effectiveness. Still, I'd also be challenging the bill.

Yes what they didn't say was that the brake pads that were barely worn however what 3 business didn't say was that the brake pads were not even touching the rotors. Incorrect brake pads installed for the car....crap from several business

I had Lubemobile come out and try to fix my car after $370.00 of which only $33 was for parts the mechanic told me the problem was fixed. I DON'T THINK SO!!! after they had several mechanics come out the total I had paid Lubemobile came up to $1000 and the car is still the same as when I started. Should have just gotten it towed to a real mechanic would have saved me a lot of money. Trying to get a refund as per the instructions on the warranty and having no luck the area manager is disputing this and now I have to take it to consumer protection... DON'T USE LUBEMOBILE!!!

Approximate cost: $1000

Hi Likesawine, what a truly horrendous experience (and expense). We are however very pleased to hear that you are pursuing the matter further, as there are far too many dodgy mechanics in operation these days that continuously get away with questionable activity. Good on you! Reeces

Hy there Likesawine sorry to hear you had such a bad time with your car at lubemobile. Since you are in the area I would like to recommend AJ Craig mechanical Services at Kirrawee. Andrew and the guys here will definately do there best to look after you . I have been going there for years now with all manner of vehicles. If you need to get towed the NRMA should be able to get you there from menai with your membership too

I've used them twice, and I can't believe I went back for seconds. I had my 1997 Mitsubishi Magna service at my home in Caroline Springs- for the usual reason, I had a small toddler and rubbish public transport in the area, so convenience was a big factor. The car was worth around $8,000 at the time, and had around 250,000kms on the clock. The first service they found a variety of things wrong, and the job cost nearly $2,000! I chalked it up to an incomplete service history and reluctantly found the money. The second time I used them, the cost was almost $2500!! I certainly didn't have the money, and was told I'd be taking a big risk by not having the work done. I should have said no and gotten a second opinion- but in the end agreed to pay, and they gave us a payment plan/finance option. You know things are pretty bad when you have to take out a payment plan to pay for your car service!! On my dad's advice, I made them keep the parts they had claimed needed replacing so we could check them out. My dad, a 30-year qualified mechanic (who unfortunately lives 300kms away) confirmed the parts were still a way off needing to be replaced- so the costly repairs were not as urgent as the mechanic had claimed, especially given that I was due to sell the car! Be warned- they might come to you, but at the end of the day, what does it matter if you are "conveniently" ripped off?

Approximate cost: $2500

After some dodgy experiences in the past, and now having a baby so not being able to get around as easily to drop the car off, we called Lubemobile. The guy who came out was friendly, reliable, thorough and went out of his way to help us. Admittedly they are not the cheapest mechanic, BUT they do come to you so what do you expect... plus as I have found through experience, you get what you pay for. Highly recommended, especially for someone like me who is not able to run here, there and everywhere.

Approximate cost: $varied

Have only used this business once and found them so expensive. The man that come out was late, quite rude and not very helpful. Won't be going back there anytime soon

I had my vehicle serviced by lube mobile in 2008, i was not pleased with the service, the mechanic that i got was tired & a bit rude, i think that the price was quite high for the service he performed, i am sorry but i will not be using them again, in the future i will go to my local garage

Approximate cost: $250

I have had several bad experiences with mechanics and explained to this one I needed someone who would look after my car, charge me a fair price and look after me. I needed quite a bit of work done and it was done promptly and I believe at a fair price.

Approximate cost: $1200
