Note: This review is not about the general skating, but the Aussie Skates lessons run by the rink.

I signed up for my first set of skating lessons a month ago, and it's been a wonderful experience so far. I'm a beginner skater, and have found the lessons extremely useful. The instructor is knowledgeable and patient, and is good at explaining the theories and ideas behind certain movements. Every week we learn new skills, and are evaluated on our ability to do them so we can progress to the next lesson and, eventually, the new level.

The lesson "term" is grouped into 4 or 5 lessons (I've signed up for 5 lessons), and includes 30 minutes of instruction every week, and 90 minutes of potential practice, to be used over the 4 or 5 weeks. The lump lesson fee also includes skate hire, and is great value! If you miss a lesson, you can also go to a make-up class, and if you lose your lesson card (which I did in my second week), they'll replace it for a small fee ($8).

Overall, I'm very impressed with both Aussie Skates and the skating rink!

Approximate cost: $115

A great way to spend an afternoon. If its a little pricey, there are lunch specials or cheaper prices for the second hour. It's best to bring an extra pair of socks as the skates are a bit old and smelly. The service is okay, although I think the stands and bathrooms could do with an upgrade.

My eldest daughter has been here for a birthday party and she had much fun.
Thinking she could not ice skate but the people she was with helped her alot.
It's a big ring, has lots of skates and many sizes. Friendly service, lots of seating area.
Love the fact that you can see the ice ring from the upper levels.
My daughter loves this place, we will be back for sure.
And may even do a party one year.

Great for kids birthday parties. The staff are really attentive and help the kids for the whole time. It is $28 for pizza, chips and lolly bag plus a lesson and ongoing attention for the 2 hours the kids are there. The pizza was fantastic and although some of the kids were really scared (even a few tears initially when they fell on the ice, as they do) by the end they were all having the times of their lives and skating like champions (not quite but they were trucking around). Fantastic kids party option and the pizza was pretty good too!

Approximate cost: $28.00

Have taken the grandkids here a number of times and they always enjoy it. However, it can be an expensive day out. It is conveniently located in the shopping centre and there is always parking.

It can be a bit expensive- however on Monday nights it is "Cheap skate night". It is an $18 flat rate and a lot less crowded.

Macquarie ice rink is a fun place to go with friends, families, or in your own spare time. There are sessions every day and you can rent the ice skates at the ring (although they are not very comfortable). Each session is 2 hours of fun and by the end of the session, you are exhausted!
