I was in the mood for some Mexican food so I found Mamasita, it was definitely worth it. The food was amazing and price was quite good. I will definitely be going there again!

I can't believe it took me six years to finally patorn this place!! I'm actually a little devastated over all the time I wasted eating dodgy Mexican when Mamasitas was there all along.

Firstly the food. Devine. Authentic, yet refined Mexican. I went a little overboard and ordered every entree and a couple of mains to boot. None of which disappointed. One note - the meals are cheap, but the serving sizes are small. Think almost tapas style - but that's great because you can have more variety! You'll be looking at realistically $25+ per head to walk out satisfied.

However, what they do REALLY well is their margaritas. They have a great selection - and some really interesting combinations... Yes, they're a bit pricey (around $17 a pop) BUT TRUST ME, they're worth it... And do yourself a favour... Don't drive after one of them... They are quite liberal with the tequila.

The downside - they're busy and don't take bookings for tables under 10 or 12... But, I always go there for an early dinner / late lunch (around 4-4:30) and get a table just fine.

This is one place every Melbournian really should try at least once.

Approximate cost: $10

Mexican dining as it should be. No offensive big obvious meals here. It's authentic, fresh taste sensations all round. Tastes you'll be dreaming of, craving, trying to recreate for years! It's good... You have to be prepared to wait. There's no booking for smaller groups. But with food this good (and you'll get a good hint of the flavours of lime wafting down the stairs as you linger) your tastebuds will be salivating and left truly satiated by the time you leave.

authentic style food, loads to options to choose from (heads up - to share platters are actually quite tiny so order heaps just in case) and staff are lovely and help explain the dishes

we came in early just before the dinner rush hour, and we weren't hurried at all

Love Mamasita, the only problem I have ever had is booking a table for the whole fam-which just illustrates the restaurant's well deserved popularity.

Approximate cost: $21

Go early - really early - unless you like to queue. Staff do try to oversell you on food so stand your ground and don't be bullied. There can be some tude flying around this place. That said the food is good, it can be too cheesy and heavy for some but it hits the spot on a cold Melbourne evening

Fantastic Mexican food that is very different from the standard "tex Mex style. Great vegetarian options which have been given the same attention to detail as the meat and seafood dishes. The best dish overall was the corn, absolutely delicious!
Service could do with some improvement. We were rushes to place our orders and also not given much assistance when we asked for recommendations. The massive line down the stairs and out the front door may have had something to do with this! If you're not up for a 2 hour wait, opt for a weekday lunch instead.

Approximate cost: $30

For great tasting Mexican, Mamasita is one of the best in Melbourne. Great street style corn and tortilla chips served with guacamole are always a great starter. I always order the small chicken tostaditas (the chicken is melt in your mouth quality) and the pork and pineapple taco. The sangria is nice but my favourite thing to drink there is the Jamaica Agua Fresca-nice and fruity without being overly sweet.
You can't book unless you have a large group so best to arrive early to avoid a long wait as there is no bar to wait at.

The only thing that really let this place down was the service which was appalling. Our waitress seemed so disinterested and distracted we had to repeat our orders three times to her! She was rude and offered no apology for her demeanor. Sad really since it put a damper on the rest of my night. Fish taco was brilliant.
