I had Markwood Concreting pour a coloured path along the rear and one side of my house, with a small courtyard at the corner where the paths met. I also had them do in exposed aggregate the front driveway from crossover to garage, with an extra car-park space across the front of the house.
The quoted price was not the cheapest I received, but I chose to go with them because during his quotation meeting, Joe seemed a little more considerate of certain site attributes than others who quoted, and made appropriate suggestions for me to consider (for example, mine is a sloping block, so he suggested I change the finished height and/or width of one of the paths from what I had drawn up in order to reduce the amount of earthwork I'd have to get done for my landscaping later down the track. He also shared his experienced opinion of how the appearance of certain shades of exposed aggregate concrete could affect the look of the property under certain circumstances).
The quality of the work is good (only one random hairline crack in the path area has shown up within the two months since the pour), and seems to be in accordance with accepted standards (I don't know them well, but a crushed rock base, steel mesh, foam lagging around pipes, and control joints were all utilized, and other contractors were brought in after the concrete was cured and finished to apply a sealer).
All the guys doing the work at all stages were diligent workers, knew what they were doing, and were polite (although I probably wouldn't describe a couple of the younger guys as 'gentlemen,' at least not in my company; I am a tradesman myself, however, so I'd like to assume that they would adjust their tone according to their perceptions of each client).
In all, I’m very happy with Markwood’s work (and would certainly recommend them any day of the week over the Monash City Council’s contractors who “fixed up” a broken crossover panel shortly afterward).
We had our carport concreted. It was a large job and it was done over two days because of the rain we were experiencing. The guys were great and they did a great job and completed the job in the time frame given. The job was done exactly as we expected and we are very happy with the result.
Approximate cost: $3,800.00
Fantastic service, on time and at reasonable prices. Obliging tradesmen. We used this company 16 years ago and again this year. Highly recommend them for your concreting needs.
