I might come back as doggie doo but the couple of times l have called this service, l have received not only inexperienced staff but have been subjected to a ridiculous line of questioning. My first health concerned was related to the first UTI l had ever had. The then nurse asked me if l had been deep sea diving or had eaten mushrooms! I knew l had an UTI and at the time my concerns were about the chills l was having. Because of her poor advice not to seek immediate medical attention, l ended up in hospital for a week with sepsis & atrial fibrillation.

My more recent contact was because of my covid infection which, apart from confirming on three RATS over as many days, was not in dispute in my mind. My reason for calling was due to difficulties breathing and how to gauge when l would need to call an ambulance. The operator was not skilled in actually listening to me, which due to my breathlessness took a lot of energy. When she announced she was going to refer to her checklist & l then anticipated a query as to whether l had been 'deep sea diving',...l gave up & excused myself from the call.

It's really important that these young nurses are also taught critical thinking abilities and listen to what they are being told and not just confuse the situation with a checklist of what can be essentially, nonsense.

A well functioning nurse on call service would take a lot of pressure off the ambulance & hospital system.

Called about an hour ago because I was paranoid about my gastro symptoms changing. The nurse both reassured me emotionally and gave me some helpful advice. I'm now sitting here with my diluted juice and plain rice feeling miles better. :)

I have used this service many times. I obtained a needle stick injury at work, and after seeing a doctor, I still had questions, so called nurse on call and she put my mind at ease. I also have a 9mth old boy and have called for questions regarding his health and mine. Great service

Unbeatable because it is free. Common sense advice for my wife while pregnant put her mind at ease for some issues but as thay cannot see you always advise you to see a doctor or visit hospital emergency if unsure, it gets worse or if you are really worried.

Great resource to be able to phone, and ask if you need to go to the doctors, have used the service many times and highly recommend, nice to speak to someone about medical concerns and they will always point you in the right direction

Fantastic concept of being able to ring up and get advice over the phone if you have a medical query or concern.

I discovered this service via a friend, so I thought I would ring them when I was worried medical related matter.

The phone operator was not able to resolve my question, but said for me to go a GP or to the emergency dept of a hospital.

Whilst I did not get the answers I needed, I was very pleased with the kindness in the person's voice to listen and be assuring.

I have first aid and have needed advice until last week. My daughter ran up a temperature which was okay for I knew what to do but then she kept vomitting over and over again. Normaly when they are ill i just do what I have been taught or studied but this started to be scarey - yes i panicked, there always has to be a first time- i called them and immidiately they put me to ease and let me know i was doing the right things.
Yes they do tell everyone if something persists go see a doctor but logicaly speaking they really cannot diagnose over the phone so it is something they have to inform us to do.
Nurses on call is really like a guide not a solution and if the something arose again i would not hesitate contacting them.
