The best place in Melbourne to eat pecking duck! Always very packed, outdated decor and not much service does not stop me from coming here to eat some very delicious and fragrant pecking ducks. One whole duck will feed 2-3 people. The duck will be served 3 different ways: pecking duck with pancakes, stir fry ducks with beansprouts, and duck soup. When the duck comes first time, it will be a whole duck (cooked including the head - so be very careful if you invite someone who might be offended). The staff will then carved the meats and placed onto a plate. He will then explain how to wrap the meat with the pancakes. The meat is served with spring onions, cucumber and plum sauce and wrapped with fragrant thin pancakes. The staff will then take away the rest of the ducks and use them to cook stir fry ducks and the soup (so no waste). In my opinion, the stir fry is just okay and soup is better than most duck soup but then again nothing very special. You really want to come here for the duck with pancakes. So do not hold back when eating them. Eat as much as you can of the pancakes ducks because that's the best part. You might want to order rice as well to eat with the stir fry. The only complaint I have about this is that you can't order more pancakes (you can but it will cost you this ridiculous amount of $2 per slice of thin pancakes - yes, per slice!). Other than that, will be coming back just for the pecking duck with pancakes.
