I've been coming to this venue for about 8-9 months to play trivia with my team. I have always found the manager on duty to be discourteous, ill-mannered and angry when he spoke to me. He seemed to be always looking for a fight. I have observed him speaking in the same manner to other people, mostly females.
Once, without knowing the pub rules, I brought in a hot tea in a take-away cup. Nothing was said to me at the time by anyone. I then brought in a tea and a pastry, as that was all I could afford that night. The manager told me I can't bring food or drink, and I apologised and have not done so again. However, on my birthday, in June, I brought in a small birthday cake for my team, and I also brought my own serviettes and plates, but forgot a knife. I asked the staff for a knife and they asked what for. I told them it was for my cake. The manager then demanded I pay 'cakeage' fees ($1.50 per person!!!) and I questioned this demand, as they would sustain no expense - no washing of dishes etc. He told me it was simply their rule, and patrons would order their pub desserts if I didn't bring cake, which of course is a joke as NOBODY on our team EVER ordered a single dessert from the pub menu. Anyway, I ended up not paying the fee and was told that if I ever bring anything else into the pub, I would be banned. I have NOT brought in any food or drink since.
Fast forward 3 months... I was there on Mon night, as usual, to play trivia. My friend went and got a VB middy for me. When I tasted it, it didn't taste ok. I thought it was tempered with, or just a bad tap. I went back to the bar and politely returned it, explaining why. The bartender offered a replacement, without being prompted. I accepted and got a different beer.
When the game started, the manager ran into the room full of trivia players, interrupting the game, stood next to me and questioned me in front of everyone... Why I sent the drink back and what was wrong with it, and how I should respect the opinions of all the other patrons who apparently tasted it and said it was fine...
He finally left, but first he placed the beer in front of me... It was humiliating and awkward and very unpleasant for me.
On Wed night I got a call from the proprietor (manager) - he didn't introduce his job role - who told me they decided to 'ban' me from the venue.
Reasons?
1. speaking badly about the venue to other people (in private conversations?)
2. the security guard who works elsewhere nearby told them they should ban me (relevance?)
3. Repeatedly bringing in food and drinks (Did once, never did again after being asked not to)
4. Returning a drink while there is nothing wrong with it...

After reading the above, you can all make your own conclusions about this venue and its ethics, about the way they treat customers. I feel targeted and discriminated against on the basis of who I am. The management know I cannot dispute the ban, and I told them that trivia is my personal therapy, as I suffer from depression and anxiety, and playing makes me happy. They didn't care about this and this demonstrates my life and well being are of no value to them.

Great location pub, right at chatswood train station. The food is average, chicken parm is good but there are not many options other than that, and the pizzas are horrible. Reasonably priced and pretty much the only location in the area that is open late. Young crowd only for a few hours on fri and sat nights as a lot of young locals go there for pre-drinks before gooing to the city.

Normal basic tavern, sports bar for punters and basic dining areas. The draw card is the staff, smartly attired neatly groomed. And the best are annie and marissa, always smiling and genuinely happy to serve their customers. A very safe place to be. The mannaget, miles, is a gentleman who runs this hotel like a well oiled machine. A great place to visit. The large number of patrons speaks for itself.

Good quality pub style food. Bistro recently changed management. Bearnaise sauce is unrecognizable (to vinegary, would be good for hot chips). Prices are good and plenty of seating available.

Approximate cost: $15 - 25

Its a good place to eat at where you can either choose from eating outside where you can smoke and look at chatswood or you can eat inside. They have good food, nice and freindly staff but their food is a bit pricey, but would go again some time.

I go here for dinner with a friend every few months. The food is nice, the service is good and I've never had a problem with a meal or waiting times. The tavern has a huge restaurant section (both outdoor and indoor) which is covered so you can visit rain, hail, or shine. It is very tranquil but in the middle of Chatswood so it's perfect.

Great place to spend some quality time. The service is great and affordable and the best thing is very close to chatswood bus interchange and train station. I simply love this place.

Spent a while looking for a good bar/pub to eat in Chatswood and really happy to find the Orchard. Lovely bar and terrace and very cheap dinner deals on at the start of the week. Hope to be back!

I can concur that their food was quality, but my experience with their service staff was vastly different to yours.
