Love Oriental tea house for dumplings and Asian food. They are open until late which is great
I really like oriental teahouse, for several reasons.
1, They are open (including the kitchen) till late. The number of times I have walked into an open restaurant at 9:30/9:45 which is advertised as open till 11pm or late only to be told that the kitchen is closed.... really annoys me
2. The menu offers a breadth of choice, for both vegetarians and meat lovers. Whether you are looking for a decent feed or just a light snack, there is something for everyone
3, Atmosphere. The atmosphere is calm, relaxing, elegant but not over the top. I appreciate the generous spacing between tables too.
They have dessert dumplings here. MMM so good. They also have a great selection of teas and savoury dumplings. Can be a bit exxy but I've always been happy with meals
Love the dumplings here. It can be a bit expensive if you order a few things so keep an eye on the prices. Service is good. They also have a good selection of teas here also.
Oriental Tea House is my favorite place to go for dumplings. Although it is not the cheapest, the quality of the dumplings definitely makes up for it. They also have a big variety of yummy flavored teas.
few friends were saying this place was good, went there to try, place was empty and they shoved us into a corner bench seating arrangement… not really suited for anyone really, especially not a couple. then we moved ourselves, browsing the menu, staff comes over is like you cant sit here, it's reserved (no reserved sign), argued for a bit, then this other man came running over with a reserved sign. after all that we left.
This place is very busy during the day...I tried pork dumplings and they had a reasonable taste, nothing better or worse than anywhere else...had to wait for food for awhile, but as I said it was busy at the time, so sort of expected...
I had yum char here and I must admit it is not quite the yum char I am used to with the trolleys and the waiters/waitresses trying to get you to take a dish. Here you order your yum char from a menu. Service was difficult to get a hold of especially when the place is practically empty.
My friend and I actually went to the new Oriental Teahouse that's opened up in Melbourne Central. My friend wanted to try it out, and it was a lovely new restaurant, and the dumplings were delicious, especially the ginger prawn. However, when it comes to dumplings, take me to dingy Shanghai Dumplings in Chinatown anyday - you get twice as much for about half the price.
The cost was pretty standard ($6-8 for 3 or 4 dumplings), and because it was really quiet the waiter was very, very attentive, which was good, but almost too much so. It was disconcerting to have to keep telling him I was still drinking my G&T and eating my custard buns. Regardless, very yummy, but probably wouldn't be my first port of call for dumplings in the city.
Approximate cost: $6-8
"Traditionally, 'Yum Cha' means tea', referring to the ancient Chinese custom of sipping tea whilst eating small portions of foods - not the all-you-can-eat lunchtime images that spring to mind with Yum Cha nowadays! But the Oriental Tea House is one restaurant that stands ..."‎ ‎
Approximate cost: $20
