I normally find Petaling Street quite good but I found the Box Hill branch to be slightly less satisfying. Portions are a bit smaller and staff seem eager to get you to finish up and leave.

The deep fried whole fish with sambal is delicious and only costs $13. My other favorite is the Hakka pork noodles- reminds me of my mom's cooking. The pork is slow cooked with ear fungus in soy sauce and spices.

We also heard great things about this chain of Malaysian fast food restaurants only to end up highly disappointed.

The char kuey teow was very oily, lacked taste and flavour. The noodles in the soup that came in another dish were limp - not al dente (yes even Chinese noodles should be al dente - not soggy!) and the nasi lemak also lacked flavor. The Hainanese chicken did not taste any better than a boiled chicken you could do yourself at home. It was disappointing! There are many other options now that are better quality and value - this place will need to lift its game if it is to compete with so many other Malaysian restaurants!

Service was okay. Orders were taken and the time taken for delivery was within a reasonable time.

Approximate cost: $12

Have only eaten here once(Box Hill). Have heard good things about this place and a friend organised a birthday dinner here one night. When I arrived there was already a queue to get a table so best to get there early or book in advance. I ordered a Singaporean noodle dish and it was overly salty and as such I didn't end up finishing it. However, I will still come back to try other dishes if the opportunity arises as the prices are reasonable.

great place to eat with so many range of foods. My favorite should be Hainan chicken rice. The portion is a bit small though.

I have been to Petaling Street twice now. Petaling Street is located in the old La Porchetta restaurant and it is open 7 days, 11:00am - LATE. There are also branches in Hawthorn and Glen Waverley. The menu offers a wide selection of Malaysian style foods. Petaling Street in Box Hill is a bustling and busy place. It is ideal for a quick meal, or you can happily linger and chat. I tried the Traditional Malaysian Roast Chicken with rice. The chicken is beautifully cooked, crispy on the outside and the meat is succulent and juicy, with a touch of Chinese spice. The chicken is served with cucumber and coriander, plus and two sambals: one is chilli and the other garlic. Hot tea is served in a bottomless cup. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and are happy to tell you about the many dishes available. On a previous visit I tried the Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and I can highly recommend that if you like spicy fried rice. Next time I go to Petaling Street I'd like to try the Claypot Ginger Duck. Great for an inexpensive meal out or a place to go with a group, so you can get to try more of the dishes. I'd recommend booking on Friday nights or at weekends.

Approximate cost: $7-$15
