This place absolutely bumps. Delicious coffee and great food, friendly service. Definitely worth the visit for the awesome interior, too.

Thanks for bringing a Melbourne style quality coffee experience to Hobart!

Sorry Hobart, I am an original Tas person, but the coffee here, the reverence around coffee, is limited to just a few small places. This is one of them, but they also manage to bring that little something extra you can't quite define.

The atmosphere here is gorgeous for a start.
The menu is inventive - yes! They expanded and what they now offer is a real delight.

Highly recommend this one!

Awesome coffee and the owners are really lovely, have always had great service there. Always apologetic if running even a little late with the order, which is really nice!! Cute little place for a snack or coffee

I go here for the coffee when I hanging out for one with punch and great flavour. The cups are on the small side (not for when you want a biggun to wrap your hands around), but if you're after a single origin or a fantastic blend of beans, these guys know what they're doing (and if you have a card, every tenth is free). The fruit bread is amazing and not run of the mill, and while I keep meaning to go back for lunch, it's just a little out of my way - the baguettes look amazing though!

Approximate cost: $10.00

I quite like this place. They use really nice coffee beans, and the baristas seem to be passionate. I always get a heart or rosetta on my coffee, which is great, even if I am ordering a flat white and don't want froth... None of the staff are very friendly. They aren't unfriendly, just lack any real personality. The food is reasonably tasty, if a little expensive. I wouldn't really go out of my way to visit, but I like to drop by on occasion when I pass.

In an industry that is pretty well saturated in this country, coffee shops and cafes really need to work at standing out, be it by exceptional quality of product service or price.

Unfortunately on my recent visit here, Pilgrim, for me, managed none of the above.

Granted I only had a coffee and didn't try any of their foodstuffs, so can't comment on quality there.

The coffee I received was pleasant enough, not obviously burnt, but it didn't stand out to me as any better than plenty of other coffee shops I've been to.

The price was about average for a cup of coffee, so there was no differential there, so that leaves the service.

This is where I felt let down. The service wasn't rude at all, but it was completely vanilla. There was no personality at all. The girl that took my order seemed disinterested and the barista making the coffees had an air of arrogance the suggested many customers are unable to appreciate truly how good his coffee blend really is. I just felt like my custom had no value to the business.

I wouldn't rule out returning, but it would only be borne out of convenience.

Love this place, such a great vibe and whilst the menu is limited they do a stunning job! Excellent coffee too!

Have a great range of salads and light meal stuff to take away or eat in. Opposite the hospital, so really convenient, and nice to have another yummy choice on limited time lunch breaks.
Service can be a bit slow (note the "limited time lunch break") but the food is good, and the staff friendly.
Overall, a real asset to this area of town.

Update 2/7/2012 - Thank you so much for serving me a latte in a proper cup today! (Have only ever had takeout coffee before.). Everywhere else, “Can I have a latte please. . . . . in a mug? Oh, you want a cappuccino? No, I want a LATTE, just in a mug please . . . . with a HANDLE!”

I don't care how stylishly European it is to drink a latte out of a glass, that's too hot to hold, with a paper napkin wrapped around it so it's always in danger of slipping and ending up in your lap - thank you Pilgrim, for not even making me ask! What a lovely surprise!

Approximate cost: $7.00
