10 reviews about Prince Of Wales Hospital

I went to emergency for severe pain that I had been enduring for two days..

I had asked four times for pain killers, they responded with someone will be with you shortly…

6 hours later I received some treatment… during the time leading up to this 6 hours I was never checked on, I was provided with no updates… During the total of 10 hours stay at the hospital I was not offered or received any food or water as well..

when I was being discharged I spoke to the lady at the desk to let her know I was leaving and she just starred at me when I said hello and responded with “yes?”

I can barely walk and cannot drive, when I tried to get medication the lifts were not working and the chemist was up the other end of the building…

Conclusion to my experience at Prince of wales? By far the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital… staff were not friendly, some were even rude, there was no professional courtesy or concern being shown.. my issue wasn’t even resolved…

I’m sorry but this simply isn't good enough..
I understand that hospital can be hectic and they can be understaffed but when you see piles of staff walking around have a good old chat and a coffee it doesn’t feel like the are that under the pump…

Definitely don’t recommend this dump of a hospital…

I had to attend the POW Hospital Randwick today for all thw wrong reasons. A friend told me that she was not well via text msg. I called her and on hearing what was wrong I rushed to her place. She was having a stroke. Being a retired registered nurse I knew the urgency required hete. An ambulance came from St George Hospital Kogarah (2 minutes away luckily). Straight A&E. Assessed and transferred immediatley to POW for emergency procedure. It was like being in a movie. From the moment we arrived at the ambulance bay it was a truly a quick professional process with beautiful people who showed exemplorary care , dedication and professionalism. Excellent people skills empathy, compassion and great communication. Remember I wasn't the patient here but a support/friend. My friend could not possibly have better care in any other hospital in Australia than she did today at the POW Randwick. A huge big thankyou and congratulations to everyone for outstanding service throughout a difficult time

As an ex Registered Nurse & having worked at the hospital I was interested in how it performed from a patient point of view -
To be honest I could not fault the medical or nursing care - it was top notch & I was obviously a critical observer. If you find yourself in this hospital be very grateful. It's world class in my humble opinion.

Food service is absolutely atrocious admitted for surgery 1pm - fasting from 8:30am- recovery 7pm in ward 7:30 pm not even offered a cup of tea
Breakfast ( after 24 hrs ) tablespoon of baked beans and 2 cold chipelado sausages glass of fruit drink ( not juice)
Lunch as ordered ham and cheese sandwich consisting of thin slice oh processed shoulder ham and a slice of cheese between two dry slices of what seemed like day old bread and a jug of water - they forgot the fruit drink o and half a cop of tin fruit salad
I was in bed 6/10 so I don’t know where i came in the pecking order but all hot food was served miserably COLD
At$2400 per day this is a total joke!!!!

Approximate cost: $2400

While I gave birth to my daughter at St George, my best friend gave birth to her daughter at Prince of Wales. I was her birthing partner as her husband was overseas. This hospital was lovely and clean, the midwives let us lead the way while being available every minute and made the whole experience incredible and beautiful.

My experience is limited to the Private Hospital - and I must say that if you are having a baby this hospital is a must! I live in Ashfield and have now twice had babies at the POWP and cannot praise the staff and facilities enough... the delivery suites are exception, newly refurbished and clean. The ward is starting to date but they are clean and good sized rooms. Food is excellent and plentiful. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being in your face. If we have another, I will once again use this hospital.

Approximate cost: $500 excess (health fund)
