Definitely not your average suburban bookstore. The staff have an almost encylopedic knowledge of their area, although their music specialist did not know what I meant when I said "monophonic". They make an excellent effort to get in something special if it is not in stock. They will try and find it in another of their stores first, then try Australian suppliers and then search the world. If you cannot get to the store they will post things to you for just a few dollars. I have not bought books there for a while but their CD prices seem fair.

I go to Readings every time I'm in Hawthorn, it's my favourite book store - all the staff are knowledgeable and if they don't have the book/cd you want they'll try and get it in for you. As an added bonus the cafe is great to.

This is a book store (also sells CD's and Videos) that is staffed by people who know their product - I would rather spend money here than somewhere cheaper - just for the enjoyment and knowledge of the staff

Readings bookstores have a great funky vibe to the,. The main downside is that they are not all that cheap. It is still a good place to wander around though. Great for browsing.

Great experience. I love getting engrossed in the wide selection of books that Readings carry.
Service was really good, friendly and helpful staff, who knew what they were on about.
Value is ok, not cheap, but not too pricey.

I'm a writer - I love bookshops. I like the atmosphere at Readings, and they're a lot better than Borders. I also work at an independent bookshop (audiobooks mainly), and I value that Readings get a wide range of print books in and not just the latest popular thing. I always find out something new when I visit, and I'm inspired often. Good cafe inside - and you don't have to wait half an hour to be served.

Approximate cost: $30-$50

They have a good and varied stock of books and CDs and an interesting books specials table. Their staff are very helpful. They also have a delighful cafe behind the store that provides very acceptable coffee.

A good variety of latest releases. The travel section is comprehensive with not only guides but picture books and personal stories. I can spend hours in here.
