We stayed here for 5 nights in May 2013. We paid $195 a night for a room on the 16th floor. We found the room to be quite comfortable, and the bed was great. It appeared our room had been recently upgraded. The room had a separate bathroom, small fridge, wardrobe, club chairs and a small table, bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilites and a flat screen television. The view was just wonderful, especially watching the sun set over the ocean. As I was here to recover from surgery before heading back to the country, we used room service ALOT- the "Tower Breakfast" was awesome, and we highly recommend it. We had that twice, and it took us half the dya to eat it! ($58) The trolley has hot boxes fitted underneath, and it converts into a table with table cloth. We also enjoyed pizza, a full gourmet dinner, cocktails and burgers. We could not fault the room service food at all. 3 hours of free wi-fi a day was also a bonus, and it was fairly fast too (I was using a laptop). The TV was not tuned in properly and after 2 days of driving us nuts (apparently they had recently changed to digital), but it was fixed once we brought it to their attention. The phones were also out for 24 hours. We also found ourselves in the midst of renovations, which we were not aware of when booking, and the noise from the outside and the mess everywhere, especially the lobby was not the best. This of course is a temporary situation, but it wold have been nice to know about it beforehand, and perhaps have had a room arate reflecting the inconvenience. It was also very bizarre that there was no furniture at all on any of the balconies, which meant you couldn't sit outside at all. Very strange and it did take away from being able to enjoy the sunset and view. We asked about this and received a few different stoires about why there was no furniture, so I do hope they fix this in the future. English was also an issue at times. Overall, it was a good stay, and the food great, and it should be better when the renovations are complete. Value for money- it was reasonable had the renovations not been going on, but Perth is expensive, and the view is pretty darn good.

Approximate cost: $195

My husband and I decided to book a room in a flash hotel for the night to give ourselves a nice treat. We chose Rendevous Hotel (ex Observation City) thinking that it was an upmarket hotel which should provide great service. On booking online I mentioned that we would like to arrive at 12.00 lunchtime. On receiving the booking conformation I noticed check in was 2pm so I emailed the hotel letting them know Id just seen their check in time and that we would now arrive at 2pm. They sent me a very nice email saying "We will endeavour to have a room ready for your at 12pm.
If a room is not available you are more than welcome to enjoy our facilities until a room becomes available." Very good I thought, that's great service, and was looking forward to a nice night. On arrival however we were to be disappointed. The room was not ready and we would have to wait 2 hours. Ok so I know they said they would 'endeavour' to get it ready for 12, but if they really had no intention of doing so, or the possibility was remote that it would be ready on time, why even send me that email. Straight away we were off on the wrong foot. The woman behind the counter that had problems speaking English indicated we could use the pool if we liked while we waited. Yes that sounds inviting, 2 hours at the pool in winter. What a silly suggestion. We went to the nearby dome and had a coffee and waited, and waited. Finally 2pm rolled around and we were able to check in. So off we went up to our 'refurbished' room. The room in general was nice. Two queen sized beds, Big screen TV. Tea and coffee making facilities, bar fridge, nice balcony and view. The refurbishment left something to be desired. The beds looked new, the balcony was newly repainted and the door to the balcony and adjoining windows all looked new, however the rest was all old. The carpet was pretty awful. Old and quite dirty looking. The bathroom was not refurbished at all. The grout on the floor and in the shower had mold and was very grotty looking. The basin had a massive crack along nearly the whole length of it and had various chips taken out of it. For the price paid I found the cleanliness to be rather bad and on a par with your regular 100 dollar a night motel, which is acceptable at 100 dollars but not for 200.

We decided to treat ourselves and order room service for dinner just for fun. The person that answered the phone was lovely, bubbly and genuinely friendly. Our meals came and the lady delivering them was a lovely friendly woman. Full marks to her, that is the kind of staff this hotel should be trying to hire! The room service meal was very nice. We had a hamburger and a lasagne, 2 pieces of cake and 2 milkshakes. Over all the meal was very nice except for the price which was $83.00. ($14.00 each for the cakes) Having said that room service is never cheap and we were aware that we would be paying something hefty due to the so called 'class' of this hotel. All in all, aside from the price, the meal was very nice and I give full marks to the room service staff.

My husband had major issues with their TV. Reception was terrible and at one point all channels dropped out to a black screen. You know men and their TV, he was very frustrated exclaiming "We get better reception at home with the bunny ears!" I had my portable hard drive with a few things to watch on it so plugged that into the TV. Unfortunately the menu came up but we were unable to select any of the menu options, so not sure what the issue was there. There was a free wifi service which we were unable to access with our ipods but I was able to get connected with my laptop. I was very pleased with this and my advice to any hotel out there is to provide a free wifi service to your guests. I see it as an essential service and as time progresses this will become more and more important to guests.

The beds where nice and it was awesome to have a queen sized bed all to ourselves. The pillows however were horrible! It is very hard to get a good nights sleep if the pillows are no good. One of my pillows was a feather pillow but very flat. the other was like a giant marshmallow. The pillow cases where kid of slippery so having the two pillows together meant I had to wrestle with them both to keep them on top of each other for half the night until I gave up and opted for just the marshmallow. My husband ditched them both and woke up with a sore neck from having to lay flat all night.

Around 7am I went to the toilet and pushed the wall button to flush as normal. The toilet started running, full on running like a waterfall. We decided to go down for our buffet breakfast rather than listen to that racket in the room.

On approaching the breakfast counter I spoke with a smile to the woman serving "Hi, we are staying at the hotel and our name is ........" Her immediate response was a curt "A room number would have been help full!" I was immediately taken aback by the rudeness of her response. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I have never been spoken to in such a rude manner. "Take a seat, its full buffet" she says, so off we went and took a seat. I saw people with newspapers and so went off hunting to find one, meanwhile my husband was so over it all he would have was orange juice. He hated their coffee machine which also had a long line of people trying to use it. Both shakers on our table were pepper, which made me laugh because without using the shakers at all my breakfast was so peppery my tongue burned and I couldn't taste the food, so didn't end up eating much. (It was the hash brown, so very peppery) There was a good selection at the buffet, fresh fruit cabinet, full continental breakfast display, and a certain amount of hot food (2 types of eggs, bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, and those super peppery hash browns) Anyway the breaky had lost its appeal thanks to the abysmal welcome from the hostess. (Seriously where are they getting these types of staff who have no people skills and clearly can't be bothered with the guests?)

We checked out straight after breakfast as we were well over it by this time. The checkout girls name was Lucy and she was lovely. Very help full and chatty and very friendly. Rendevous take note, get more staff like Lucy! Also the concierge guy was great. Very friendly and helpfull.

The room $194.00 per night
Breakfast for two $58.00
Valet parking $20.00
Room service $83.00
Total $355.00

I do not mind paying for quality but frankly this is not a quality hotel and not at all what I was expecting for the price. We will certainly not be staying there again.

Approximate cost: $200 per night
