1 review about Restaurant Deux

This site was previously run as Two Chefs on Bolton and Restaurant II; Now taken over by Lesley Taylor who previously worked at Lime. Having trained under Robert Molines (of Bistro Molines in the Valley), she was the first chef in the region to earn a Chefs Hat and has now transformed this establishment into a class of its own in Newcastle, specialising in French fine dining. Having dined at Est., Marque and the like in Sydney, the food here would have to be almost, if not on par with these esteemed restaurants. Whilst the service is not quite as sharp, it is by no means less than attentive, unobtrusive and ultimately a pleasurable dining experience that really is a step above the mediocrity in Newcastle (similar prices to dining in Honeysuckle restaurants but food is far superior). The wine list is impressive, the aromas from the open kitchen tantalizing, and the background noise kept to a minimum (I can hear the conversation for a change!). The surroundings are probably a little stark, but not uninviting. Again I'll mention the food is fabulous and if I wasn't in a public space, I'd be drinking the jus from the gravy boat by the cupfulls! The only word of warning is that if you are looking for a low calorie/butter free cuisine, then this is not what you should be having before participating on the Biggest Loser.... but that's the joy of French food isn't it?
