Very, very disappointed with final result of our patio slab. Ryan even had the audacity to tell me after completing the job that it was “not my best work”. We agreed to pay him an extra $500 for concrete he believed he needed after we had agreed to proceed with his initial quote & AFTER he finished the job he told me he required an extra .8M3 to finish the job? So we have a huge hollow at one end of the patio which is very obvious to everyone who has seen it including our tiler. We asked for 115mm drop to top of slab from our doorway & it ranges from 80-95mm – I even drew a line in Nikko for him. He made the slab wider than the measurement he quoted and the measurement I reiterated again on the day of forming – I did the simple math & worked out that had he laid the concrete to the correct height & width, he would have had the correct amount of concrete. There is no Able-flex between house & the slab and there is now approx 7 mtrs of cracking that is still growing? I wanted fall from the house to edge of slab, but he also put fall to right hand corner which was not what he said he would do. We paid extra $500 for labour who never showed up on the day (& would have made this job simpler for him & a better result for us). I told him I wanted a tile finish slab. Our tiler said he needs to hire equipment & 1 day labour just so he can get it to a point so he can begin to play with the variances. We have to use 300x600 tiles now as the 600x600 tiles we had picked out will not work on such a poor finish. Tiler will need to put down minimum of 15mm glue bed instead of 5mm to take up variances, so he's charging us the extra cost of labour & materials. The tiler will not be able to provide us the final result we expected as he said there is just too much variance to take-up. Ryan made a comment on a few occasions that if we get a “foreign” tiler they will complain less than an “Aussie” tiler. Well, my tiler is from Vietnam & he complained! I need to get a contractor in to trim the long edge of the slab which blew out due to insufficient pegging and looks amateur. No one can understand why his formwork was not laid so he could screed off the top of it? Instead, the formwork was higher than the finished slab, effectively making it like a “pool” of cement which he had to free-hand to a level which was pencil marked on the inside of the timber & it failed dismally…. Now the edges are like waves. I wanted plastic under the slab which he said he would supply, & he ended up finding & using MY roll of plastic which I require for another job. He couldn’t get his chopper started to finish the slab as “someone” broke the starter cord. If I didn't install a new cord & get the chopper running, this job would have looked even worse which is hard to believe. Cigarette butts all over the yard, concrete along the entire 8 mtr length of our brick wall & dog c##p on the back lawn – who brings their dog to a residential job site? He drove his excavator across our bespoke concrete edging smashing it – when I approached him, he pretended he knew nothing about it at first, then blamed his labour & finally admitted to it – I sourced a Kwik Kerb agent who fixed it & Ryan did cover the cost. He dug dirt out & dumped it onto our mulched garden. I am willing to send pics and invite any prospective customers to come & inspect my slab to verify everything above. And if you are a woman then be prepared – he said that the only time he has had anyone complain about his workmanship is with women & he will never deal with a woman again. I am a bloke & I have never had someone leave me as peed-off with a job like Ryan did. And finally, Ryan promised to refund me $1,000 which I would have handed directly to the tiler – he said his word is his bond. I have been very patient & professional & tried NUMEROUS times contact him. He promised to have this to me 24.02.23 so I gave him to 07.03.23. When I rang him from another phone number (because he blocked my number), he hung up on me. So unfortunately I had no choice but to leave this review & would never ever recommend Ryan to anyone as he spoke a big game – He promised the world & gave me an atlas……I would give Zero Stars but I can’t …. (I can hear his rebuttal already – I am certain he will find reason why none of the above is his issue - you'll see)… Russell
