A group of us tried San Kai for lunch, they offer a $10 lunch special which is a good way to try them out. I had a sushi plate and the salmon teriyaki lunch special which came with miso soup and salad. I was a bit disappointed with the sushi plate as it was mainly teriyaki chicken nori rolls.

San Kai has a great atmosphere and an incredibly convenient location in Southbank - it's not really the kind of Japanese food I was expecting, it's more like fusion Japanese, which is probably indicated by the 'Modern' in the restaurant name. Our waitress gave me a lemonade instead of a coke, and only brought us out one miso soup, but these were only minor issues, and it was pretty quiet so we didn't have any problems with service.

Our food was yummy but not amazing, which was a bit disappointing considering that it wasn't particularly cheap. Would try elsewhere before I went back.

I have tried the chicken curry it was really delicious and the sushi is beautiful it's very fresh it just melts in your mouth, the staff are wonderful this restaurant is very modern and reasonably priced. Definitely a must for sushi lovers.
