I had fantastic nurses whilst I was admitted in hospital and recovery, however the outpatient area provided a consistently bad level of service, to the extent that it became so severe and consistent I had to laugh at it. Also the nurses in the emergency area were dreadful and had me in tears. I assume they are overworked. If it wasnt for the amazing care I received from two nurses whilst I was admitted I would fail to place any stars next to this hospital.

I had my first son at Sandy in September 09. Despite the out-of-date facilities, the doctors and staff were fantastic throughout the pregnancy and birth. However, I have to say the 2 day stay I had to endure after birth just wasn't good enough. I ended up checking myself out after 2 nights (after c-section)so I could get some rest. As a first time mum I thought I was left unattended, probably due to the fact that the lady next to me needed so much attention. There were some brilliant nurses but also some not so good. I called for assistance with feeding and got a young nurse who was rough and stern. On the second night I was dead on my feet with a 4.85kg hungry screaming baby until 4am before a nurse offered help. She took my son away but brought him back after 30mins saying she couldn't calm him. We didn't think the size of the room would matter as we didn't want visitors to the hospital, however, it was very uncomfortable for my mum and husband through the day. Especially when the family sharing the room has 25 visitors and steals your feeding chair !

I had my son 3 years ago at Sandy and he spent 2 weeks in special care. My twins were born a year ago at Monash and they were transferred by my request to special care at Sandringham. Although the hospital is run down it is a fantastic, caring place in the midwifery area. The nurses are wonderful and the staff in the
Special care unit are amazing. I felt reassured leaving my babies there and knowing they would be cared for properly. The meals are done on site and are great I must say for a hospital!! I would choose Sandy over any Private hospital.

I had my son at Sandringham 6 weeks ago and cannot speak highly enough of my experience. This was my first child so I was not sure what to expect. The staff are friendly, professional and very supportive. My labor was a bit tough as we alternated between natural delivery and possible ceasar. I had complete faith during that time that the midwives and doctors were making the best decisions for me and my baby. The ward and rooms are a bit old and worn and the food is what you would expect from a hospital (nothing gourmet, but homely). As the rooms are smaller, there are only two beds per room. I was fortunate enough to have a room on my own for the two days I was there. As breastfeeding is always challenging to begin with, I would ring the buzzer every time I needed to feed and someone would always be more than happy to help. If I was to offer any criticism, it would be that the meals menu could have offered more variety for a diabetes diet, that the staff does not always introduce themselves and they all have different approach to breastfeeding/latching which can confuse you a little bit.

I opted to have shared care and Sany Hospital, all the midwifes are the best!! Having an emergency c-section they were very caring and reassuring as it was our first baby if you plan on going to this hospital as a public patient book in as soon as possible as it is very popular. Another thing I loved was the food!!!

My daughter had to go back after been discharged for some therpay under the lights, being my first i did not know what to expect the lady in the special care nursery was fantastic and very reassuring.

First baby argh! But Sandy hospital made the experience a great one. I decided to go there as a friend of mine had her baby there too and loved the place. It's a little bit seventies but it's got a great vibe and staff are great!

Giving birth for the first time is hard enough but I found the staff and facilities really good. If you are going public they are excellent, and only two beds per room (most hospitals have four which makes it impossible to get any sleep). The first night I was there I got lucky and had the room to myself. Midwives were very friendly and I came away feeling very positive about the whole experience.
