I'd heard great things about Straits but honestly, I thought it was just slightly better than average. There aren't that many great Malaysian hawker style restaurants in the area, so that helps Straits out as well. I might need to go again to try other dishes as well, as I've only have the Char Kuey Teow.

This is one of the best Malaysian restaurants in the area..and honestly every time I have been there to eat, I have never been disappointed with the food nor their service. One of their best dishes, is the "Hor Fun"....so yummy...their "char keow teow"...one of the yummiest I've eaten....They do BYO as well for those who wish to take their own wines...A must try is the traditional Nasi Lemak...I must say this place is always full, so just to ensure you get a table, make a booking and you wouldn't be disappointed ....

Food is nice- authentic Malaysian food, lately the prices have increased and the price of a 'Wat Tan Hor' or char hor fun is more than $10.00. Quality of food is still good and consistent. Easy to find parking and it's along Stud Rd (near to Knox S/C)
Approximate cost: $12.00
Food and service both very good; decor basic, which is fine by me. The night my wife and I were there, a few people had to wait, I guess due to not booking, which confirms what other reviewers have mentioned. It does get busy! The waitress was most helpful, offering to suggest dishes. Although we have had quite a few Malaysian meals, we were happy to accept her offer, and it worked very well. Just wished we had added rice, but that was our mistake. We tried two Malaysian desserts, black sticky rice and coconut ice cream. Surprised myself by enjoying both, as I'm not much of a dessert person. Especially loved the chunks of coconut in the ice cream. I'm keen to get back soon.
A nice Malaysian cafe located in Wantirna South, close to Know Shopping Centre. I tried the Nasi Lemak and while it wasn't as good as those I have tried in Malaysia, it was quite good. Staff are very friendly and service is fairly fast.

Child friendly. Went on the weekend with my toddler son. Fast service, highchair, great food. Plenty of free parking, but can get very busy. We were lucky to walk in and get a table.
Approximate cost: $12
Delicious food, huge servings. Low budget decor and they don't take credit cards but there is an ATM next door. Make sure you book ahead as there aren't many tables and it is busy! Also not open Sundays or Mondays
Approximate cost: $12
Everytime I come back to Melbourne, this is one of the first stops I make. The food is sooooooo good and authentic and the prices are reasonable. Service can be a bit hit and miss sometimes but from the looks of the always busy restaurant and the many take-aways they do, service is the last thing their patrons care about. Well worth trying if you're after great Malaysian food.
The food is fantastic and at a really good price. The servings are decent and the dishes are so authentic! If you're looking for a good bargain and you're in the area, you must check out this little cafe!
Approximate cost: $12
We went for lunch on a Sunday, it was booked out and the tables were being turned over quite quickly (although we were never pressured to move on).
It is basic in decor and furniture however the food was great. The menu had the usual Malaysian suspects and a couple more that you don't always see. The dishes were fresh and a decent size.
The service was pretty attentive given how busy it was. It is BYO with only soft drinks available in the restaurant.
Approximate cost: $10-$12
