Such friendly staff and appears very knowledgeable. Got huge collection of driftwood. They were extremely helpful to give advice about setting my tank.

Approximate cost: $500

Subscape is a great little aquarium hidden away on Victoria St - blink and you'll miss it. The staff are really knowledgeable and helpful, and friendly and approachable. It's clear that they're not just retail people who applied for a job that happened to be in an aquarium, but are actually people who keep and know about fish and aquarium set ups, etc.

There is a room of beautifully scaped aquariums in the front which shows that the staff actually know what they're talking about and can do more than just keep fish alive (which is more than I can say for some other places..). The fish in the shop always look healthy and well cared for, and the shop itself is clean and neat.

There are other aquariums and pet supply places closer to my house, but I am happy to go to the other side of the city to support Subscape.

My only gripe is that they keep their Betta fish in tiny cups :(

I am a huge fish nerd, and Subscape is without a doubt the best LFS in the greater Melbourne area. The staff are knowledgable and friendly, the shop itself is always clean and smells great (no mouldy smell like most LFS!), the aquascaping is exceptional, and they have the best and healthiest fish around.

I also appreciate their honesty - when I was talking to (I believe) the owner about starting up a shrimp tank, he discouraged me to start it straight away and talked to me all about setup and to have a serious think about it. It is not often that a retail store will be honest with you and miss out on a sale.

Thanks for the wonderful fish and plants, we'll be back once I get my next paycheck!

In my experience a decent LFS (local fish shop) is a rare thing, and Subscape is more than decent.. Good range of fish and plants, good prices on fish, and more impressively knowledgeable advice ;-)

Have made this aquarium shop one of my main suppliers due to their helpful knowledge of tropical fish. They have an awesome variety of fish, and by that I mean they have varieties that you don't find often in other aquarium stores. I bought a purple spotted gudgeon there over 6 months ago that only NOW I've started noticing in other aquariums. They were happy to give me all the info I need on the gudgeon as other stores had no idea what I was talking about. Their products stocked are of high quality. They are upgrading more tanks at the moment so I can't wait to see the new and different varieties of fish they'll be stocking! lastly they service tropical fish only, therefore their knowledge is of Tropical fish and a few goldfish.
