Love it! Quality food with real ingredients and very good coffee. Raspberry vegan cake is a fave, as well as the great pies.
We've been visiting Sugar Dough for over 10 years! We love this cosy cafe. Staff are lovely and down to earth, their pastries and soups are first class. What's more, they use organic beef and organic flours, free range eggs and free range chicken. We've bought the most amazing cakes for birthdays from here too. It's fantastically child friendly and the Xmas mince pies are amazing!
A lovely little bakery with above-average pastries (try the muffins!) and great coffee.
Great breads and nice little treats for the kiddies as well.
My only complaint is the size - it's one of those super tiny Melbourne gems that's always so crowded (hard to get a table, so I always opt for take-away). But other than that, I definitely would give this a try if you're in the trendy northern suburbs.
This place is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. It is literally right in the middle of nowhere. Slightly displaced in what is a a suburban/neighborhood area. The only saving grace is that the scenic north coburg tram line runs past at a regular interval.
Well worth getting off the tram for a quick stop. The cakes, cookies, pastries (savoury & sweet) and well made with fine ingredients and excellent value.
When I am in the area, I always make it a point to stop there. They have fantastic pies. It is great to sit down and have a cup of hot chocolate!
Approximate cost: $12 to 15
Nice variety of bread, scones, pies, jams etc. Love their meat pie with relish. Simply delicious! Good staff and great location.
This is a favourite place of mine to sit down and have a quiet coffee. The pies are delicious and the service fantastic

This bakery is the best in Melbourne. From breads to cakes to pies to salads, they have something for everyone. Their vegetable pie is the best I've tasted, just make sure you get relish on top. Their soups are very good also and there are normally 4 different types to choose from. The olive sourdough baguette is to die for and I'd forgive you for eating it all in one session. Try this place out, preferably on a week day when it isn't so packed!
Approximate cost: $10
I stuffed up a cake I baked for my Mum's 60th so gave these guys a last minute call on a Saturday morning to get a replacement cake. They had beautiful fresh cakes in stock and were able to write a message on the cake at the drop of a hat. I bought the vegan apple and raspberry cake and it was just delicious - everyone loved it and nobody could tell it was vegan. They wrote a birthday message on a chocolate square with a shimmer of gold spray on it and it looked fabulous. Was so impressed they were able to do all that at such short notice.
I haven't 'eaten in' yet but noticed they use bonsoy and green eggs (eggs from free range chooks that are re-homed rather than killed when they are at end-of lay).
lovely cafe/bakery. it's quite small and quite busy, so it can be hard to get a table sometimes, but it's worth the wait in my opinion! the food is great and i just love being there!
This review is mainly about their baked goods. The bread is good, but not as good as the best I've had, especially their sourdough's which have room for improvement. The sweet stuff is outstanding. Great coffee and the place is always _packed_ on the weekends, which can be good or bad, depending on your mood.
Approximate cost: $10-15
Really cute, cosy and busy cafe with fabulous baked goods. Always busy, packed out on a saturday or sunday morning, this place is great if you can actually get a table. A bit cramped due to it's popularity but a really lovely place to hangout nonetheless.
Go for the donuts and white chocolate brownies - absolute heaven! Place is small but quality of ingredients and taste is top notch. I live in the Eastern suburbs and agree that driving out there for 45-55 minutes is not a problem - breads are natural and pure.
Approximate cost: $10
God, I love this place. I live in Hawthorn, but I think nothing of driving over Brunswick-way to get a Sugardough fix. Everything is GREAT about it. The savoury food. The coffee. The pot of hot chocolate (my sons' fave). The cakes. The take-home bread and pastries. The service/staff. The atmosphere. My two young sons and I love this place, especially because the staff are so welcoming to kids, too. I actually can't fault it, to be honest! Oh, the only negative is that it's not open on Mondays...lol...(having said that, such good staff deserve a day off!!)
I have been to this cafe many times, and always feel welcomed. The food is best quality and fresh. I want fresh and good quality and variety, or I won't come back. their food is tasty and mouthwatering.
Approximate cost: $20
Awesome coffee and fantastic pastries. The bake all their own bread and pastry. I love this little cafe and it has a great vibe. The staff are friendly and quirky, newspapers are plentiful, and you can sit out on the Lygon st if you want.
