Decent yum cha restaurants are hard to find. They are invariably likely to be large noisy dining halls, crammed with as many large round tables as possible. Or alternatively, you have extremely expensive chinese restaurants where a plate of dim sum will cost $15.
I am glad to report that Tao Tao treads a nice line between the two extremes, offering both a convivial atmosphere and appetizing feed that is neither el cheapo and poor in terms of quality, but will not bust the budget.
The trolley items are fresh (you can really tell when items have been doing the rounds too many times), the staff pleasant, and the atmosphere allows for one to both receive personal space as well as strike up a conversation with someone across the table without needing to speak in a raised voice in order to be heard.

I was informed the chef came from flower drum and I assume the food should be fantastic. There is limited parking at the back of the resturant. The ambience is fantastic and the place is small for a typical yam cha place - looks like a boutique resturant. We struggled as we have young children pushing and parking prams and strollers around. The food is average; I can't tell any difference between this and other yam cha food. But the price is 40% higher than average yam cha restaurants. I've been to multiple yum cha and average per head is around $25. This is $35 per head resulting to 40% higher. I wouldn't return to this resturant unless it's to impress customers for its good ambience.

A new restaurant, and what a find. The best yum cha we have had (and we've tried yum cha all over Melborune), and reasonably priced as well. Our Asian friends were very impressed. Great decor, great attentive staff. Our new favourite.
