3 reviews about Ted's Cycles

Finally, a bicycle store that knows about bicycles!

I went to 2 other bicycle stores before visiting this one to purchase a rear luggage rack for my racing bike; the first store (Sunshine) adamently bragged about how much experience they had and told me it couldn't be done. The second store nearby didn't have any rear luggage parts.

Finally I called Teds bicycles in 265 Barkly St and spoke to Michael, who advised me of some solutions (ie Topeak beam rack, dual side frame and pannier bags) and even gave me the part numbers so I could gooogle them for myself. Bicucle forums were in agreement with what Michael reccomended so I went in to purchase them. When I came into the store Michael instantly remembered me from my telephone call and expertly explained the advantages of them. When I enquired into the possibility of increasing my weight allowance beyond 10kg he then reccomended an unusual but very secure solution for mounting a conventional rack on the forks which I am very happy with. (And it worked out cheaper than the Topeak products!) Like Michael, the gentleman who put through my sale (Geoff) was very courteous and helpful and even assisted me to adjust my new helmet properly (which the guy in the shop in Albert Park had failed to do).

I cannot reccomend this store enough. The prices were competitive with the internet, I received service that I have not received in any of the other stores, and I completely trust them to take car of any warrantly issues if they occur.

I actually remembered that I had gone in another time and also been blown away by the genuineness of their service, (not just trying to charge me like a wounded bull at every corner as had happened to me in the past) and I had told myself that I would shop there in the future. Well this time I mean it, Teds Barkly st will be my new regular bike shop. Quinn

PS I know it is important to provide a balanced review but so far after 2 wonderful customer service experiences I don't have anything negative that I could add.

Approximate cost: $150

These guys are fantastic, they know their bikes. I took my bike in for a service and they explained everything fully when I picked it up and offerred me alternatives to fix it up.

These guys get you very excited about cycling. I was reluctant to buy one but my partner dragged me there. They are about the bike, not about the sale. They have a follow up service so that you can go back and get the bike serviced for no charge. They have a big range of cycles. They had the one of the ones we wanted in stock. We wanted them there and then and they got the other within 24 hours. For the novice, it is not a daunting experience either.
'Ted' started the business many years ago and is in the (large) shop daily.
