It's funny that small businesses complain about us going to "corporate" retailers, but sometimes the little guys don't help themselves and give us no real choice. And I often wonder why people go into retail jobs if they don't like people, or dealing with the public. I used to like coming to this store, but last time I visited here, the owner was being so rude to another customer, (somewhat elderly), and then told her never to return to the store, over a ball of wool or something ridiculous like that. She then complained to me about customers coming into her store for her expert advice but buy nothing, then go to Spotlight for what they need. Expert advice? Really?.
What I usually like about tiny, specialist retailers is their point of difference, & their know-how. You might not buy something every time you visit, but you'll go back there, when you need something because they are usually helpful, but more importantly, treat you like you're special. But the owner here does neither. Everything is overpriced & there's not much here that you can't get from Spotlight or Lincraft. And what used to be the "hat room" is simply a junk room now. Save yourself a wasted trip. The owner here needs to step back and put someone in charge that actually likes people.

Dear Anonymous, I am so very sorry to hear of your awful experience. I would like to take the opportunity to speak with you again if this is possible to make my apology to you personally. I am of an older generation and have worked in Customer Service roles for many, many years. I feel very bad that you had such a poor first impression of me. I've been raised to treat people with dignity and decorum and would not maliciously wish harm on anyone, let alone an older person. As a new and first time owner of The Brighton Button Shop it was a dream come true for my mum and I to have the chance to restore this wonderful shop. In 2011 the 'Hat Room' was introduced to cater for the Spring Racing ladies and their headwear. It was well received and looked wonderful when it was in full bloom in Sept - Dec 2011. In May it was undergoing a change in readiness for the seasonal change; that of Winter. I am so sorry you saw this as a junk room at the time. I endevour to take on board any critisisms and address them to the best of my ability and resources. The Brighton Button Shop is constantly changing and addressing the needs of customers and community.
