Ok, so as far as supermarkets go, this one is the pits. It constantly has out of date items on its shelves and in its fridges, the store is dirty and dingy and poorly laid out, and the owners and staff just don't seem to care all that much. It always amuses to see the shopping trolley parked just inside the entrance that has all the "discounted items" for sale, which in reality are the products that they've discovered for themselves are out of date (as opposed to some poor mug bringing an out of date item back to them, which is something I've had to do once or twice because I stupidly forgot to check the expiry date). I actually thought selling out of date food was more than just frowned upon...anyway, its a diabolical store, and considering that the Newport and Williamstown area is well serviced by Coles, Safeway and IGA, its only use as far as I'm concerned is for emergency dashes for forgotten ingredients and the like. Avoid at all other costs.

You're not wrong there. Only go here if I've been to the Doctor's in Home Rd and can't bear the thought of stopping anywhere else.

Prices are so high compared to most others - and for lower quality goods. Only worthwhile stuff I got here recently was some discounted Christmas decorations in January. With the new IGA just over the railway line in Mason St, it's a wonder they are still in business.

this place certainly does not live up to this name of "friendly grocer" by what you have shared! Its a shame though!! thank you for sharing your experiences

Hi Rodb4, thanks for yet another impeccably written review! One is left to wonder about the sheer irony in relation to the business name chosen by some establishments, as many who claim to be, â??The Bestâ??, â??The Freshestâ??, â??The Biggestâ??, etc, are often the worst when it comes to delivering, thus making a complete mockery of their chosen name. One is also left wondering where the health inspectors are when so many businesses are suffering from a serious case of poor hygiene. Selling some types of â??out-of-dateâ?? food is unlawful and if your are unfortunate enough to experience this again, we encourage you to take the matter further. Thanks again for a detailed review. Regards, Reeces
