Decided to take my couple of young kids fruit picking at a Bilpin Orchard. Went to Fruit Bowl and was really disappointed. Ok peaches in their shop were $5.99/kg but we followed their fruit picking directions and walked down a road. When we finally got to the end of the road we were told 'admission' was $2.50 each and then peaches would be $5.00/kg. $10 bucks to start before we even get any peaches and then only at a slight discount to the shop price after WE pick them. General attitude of place seemed unprofessional. 'Picnic area' is really run down. Garbage bins overflowing. Bbq's broken.
Didn't want to buy much here at all. Took the kids 5 minutes up the road, met a lovely orchard owner.....picked our peaches with no 'admission charge' and nice peaches were $3.50/kg.
used to go to Fruit Bowl a lot as a kid. Won't be back.
This road is strewn with orchards and thank the good Lord, a beautiful day can be had if you wander up this path so close to sydney. In season this mixed orchard has beautiful fruit all be them seconds afte the market is saturated for filled. I have been coming here since childhood with many lovely memories of sitting on a swing under the orchard trees and having a bit of pie peach apple or berry with ice cream. So many changes and sadly not enough updating of public facilities and appeal has left this a secondary consideration BUT I would like to say that the orchard is still in good hands after 25 yrs or so and I would love to see this icon built up once again because it is situated on a hill with a vista and fresh air unsurpassed. Charity is still generous to the community from this place and the vairety of the orchard keeps it open for much of the year bar cold winter and early spring time
Great, they have best fruit, all fresh, they make apple pies which are brilliant. always stop by when i go past.
they are great cant wait to go there again we go every time we in the area i mean living near there we go almost every week
we stop here anytime we go through bilpin to buy some freshly picked apples and usually a home made apple pie just like nanna used to make chock full of apples
