5 reviews about The Great Southern Hotel

I first stayed here about 12 or more years ago before it got renovated and changed names in one of their courtyard rooms and was keen to try it again.
During the June long weekend I chose to stay in their west wing suite which is actually quite nice but no fresh air.
The bed is encased in glass walls seperating it from the kitchen/lounge area if you could call it that. It has a table for 2, a sink, convection oven, NO plates or cutlery and couch for 2 in front of the tv.
there is a second tv in the bedroom
the bathroom area impressed me most. you could fit 3 people comfortably in the shower cubicle, 2 in the toilet and 2 or 3 people in the wash basin area.
very nicely renovated but not suited to long stay as there is no where to cook.
would stay here if I cant get a room at a new favourite hotel and it if its a short stay. 2-3 nights

I have stayed at this hotel located directly across from Southern Cross Station a couple of times whilst have family stay here. The rooms are slightly bigger that your average (For staying at a hotel on budget) comes with t.v and the breakfast down stairs is reasonably priced at $20 but there is quite a lot on offer. This hotel isnt bad at all for what you pay, definitely better than some hotels a few doors down!!

Approximate cost: $80-150

i have stayed in this hotel a few times and the staff are very professional in what ,do they have a mini bar in the room and tea and coffee making facilities as well. the breakfast was a good price of $20, they are situated centrally so that makes the stay all that more special . the front counter looked after me with advice on parking as well come and stay here you wont be disappointed

I stayed here on my very first trip to Melbourne for 5 nights. I love the great location of the hotel and could navigate to transport, shopping and tourist destinations easily. The staff were quick to answer my telephone inquiries at 1am in the morning. They are also quite attentive with the parking. I had the classic room and found it to be clean and spacious. I found it to be good value for the price and when I needed fresh towels they were happy to supply them to me at no extra cost.

Approximate cost: $120

i recently stayed here while on a shopping trip to melbourne. The staff were helpful and very polite. We stayed in the double deluxe room which was very modern and clean. The room had all the necessities you would need for an overnight stay such as tv, mini fridge, tea and coffee facilities and bathroom. I think for the money we paid it was a very decent room. It was a bit noisy late at night but we got use to it by the second night. Although we didnt have the buffet breakfast i thought the price was good for $20 so maybe next time i stay here i will try it. overall i think this is a good hotel for anyone on a budget.
